Would this be best for making cold air intake?
Would this be best for making cold air intake?
What I've gotten from searching around on the board- besides trying to figure out what OSCAI is- that the best way to combine normal after market intake and CAI is to take of the black plastic on the end of the intake, and attach some sort of hose(from PVC to Dryer tubing) and run it down by the front bumper. IS this correct, and would it be best to do?
I just bought the intake(pop?), so I want to still use it, combined some how with getting cold air.
My friends protege', was allready all fixed up when he bought it, but his cold air intake is the tubing comming from that timing peice, running down to the front bumper, where it connects into a after market air filter.
Would that be better to try and do?

If I could, I'd rather make my own, 1. Becuase I'll know what is going into it and how to do it(instead of possible POS), and 2. Money :S Can barely do cheap or none. Would rather do cheap, if it helps about as much as something 5x the price.
if thats all ya got is the filter, you have a few options
if ya wanna go the same route as all the other cai, you can drill into your fender and run pvc down into that an put the filter on the end. your gonna keep the stock midpipe then? it might be tricky to mount the pvc onto the end of the mas, but im sure you could with a flange and an adapter. or you can just use dryer hose to bring cold air to where the filter is now,

They told me that pricing would be different, but if I knew they were going to be 200-250 then I would have went to Place Racing or Cattman before I waited 4 months on them.
I think the dryer hose might work best for me... 1. I don't want to have a hole in the bumper becuase 2. I want to save up and get at least a 92' SE 5spd Maxima, becuase it has, from what I've heard(correct me, and say why, if I'm wrong), it has a much more powerful engine, and if I put all the money into this one for performance, it wouldn't be nearly close to the performance of putting that much money into the SE. So save and wait, I shall.... and do little things untill then!
Suggestion:
Go to a truck shop or maybe muffler shop and purachase about 2.5 ft. of 3" exhuast flex pipe. You can get the stainless steal pipe for a few dollars more, but the galvanized is cheaper and paintable. Should run under $20 including tax, any more and they're ripping you off. Go to Home depot, buy one PVC rubber connection boot. You will have to cut and rewire your MAF. Cut hole, run pipe with the MAF relocated into the fender. The VE will need more pipe than 2.5 feet. Over a year and no problems. Email me for more specifics if this is where you want to go.
Re: Re: Suggestion:
Personally, I really don't see the point to anyone posting about Intakes of any sort anymore. The fact is that you have CAI's made for you already. A couple of guys have devised their own cai's, if you search you'll find all the info about intakes as you can possibly want.
If you feel like going a cheaper route, take a picture of one of the existing cai's to a muffler shop that does mandrel bends. Tell them that you would like them to bend you that exact thing. They will use steel instead of aluminum, yes it's heavier, but it keeps heat out better. This is good alternative route for getting a proper cold air intake and not one of those 'ghetto' rigged things.
