Vtc Help

i'm in the process of tryin to ground my vtcs, only thing is i can't find the quick splicers that craig used on his page since the radio shack down here does not have them (they told me to look at wal-mart...didn't see them there either)....so what i need to know is, what are some other alternatives....i would just cut the plastic sleeve from around tha green and yellow wire, but its too damn samll and if i cut the wire, i'm SOL......anybody got any other ideals!!!!

you dont need to use the same connectors I did

I'm sure you can find these "quick splice" connectors around somewhere - Pep Boys, Radio Shack, even Home Depot has them

the blue ones are good for this size of wire

if you still cant find those, you could just cut the vtc signal wire, strip both ends, and use a wire nut to connect both ends of that with a new ground wire end

let me know how it turns out

thanks craig...i really don't want to cut tha wire in half...and with this crazy cold weather...the VTCs are actin up a lil too much....when tha car is cold, it they don't tick...when it warms up, thats when they start tickin..its weird, but i'm gonna end this ambiguity!!

I am sure you know this already, but you will lose a significant amount of power when you do this. I grounded mine, FELT the power loss, and put it right back where it was. My intake 'overpowers' the tickin' anyway. You are smart for leaving the option open to switch back - you most likely will.

Try synthetic oil and a genuine Nissan filter. It worked good for me.

Good luck!

I grounded mine, and didn't notice a large loss. Maybe 5%.

Even if it was 5%, that would be 10HP. Instead of the pull from 5 - 6500K RPM, I just got a flat spot with a bunch of intake noise.

I think the VTC problem is directly related to their condition.

If they are working good, but make noise, grounding them will seem like a huge (10-15HP at the top-end) loss.

If they are working crappy, and sound crappy, then grounding them will not seem like that big of a loss because you were already down a bit on power.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I guess it just varies from case to case. We can give you our opinions all day long, but the best thing to do is find out for yourself. Again, leave the option open to switch the ground back.

well, i was able to go to tha walmart on the better side of town and found some quick splicers that i needed.....when i raised the hood up and located my VTCs and the wire i neede to cut into....i didn't have to make a cut into the wire covering...i don't know if its from heat or what, but the plastic peices closes to the VTC assembly itself have pretty much broken off....so i can slide tha wire covering back and forth .....the VTC in the back was the one i grounded since the wire covering had the most play there.........after grounding them, i started the max up.....my car startrd ticking instantly and didn't stop....i pooped tha hood and disconnected the ground and connected it back....as i did that, i heard sort of a spark noise (like when you touch hot jumper cables together and get sparks)...the VTC's instantly quieted down to a peep....i was happy...didn't notice any serious loss of power or whatnot and plus i advanced the timing......everything seemed pretty good....until this morning, i cranked up the car and the tick was back....i was in a rush so i didn't disconnect and connect them back again to see if they'll stop tickin....i know i need to replace the u shape ring with an o ring, but other than that....i can't figure out why it started ticking again....any ideas craig????

I just bought them from radio shack less than a month ago. The part numbers that Craig list are special order, but they have some regular quick splices that work just as well.

not really sure what is going on, only thing I can think of is that you need to make sure the wires are making a good connection inside the connector and at the ground terminal

those connectors I listed are just some ones I found at a giant Radio Shack around here, pretty much any connector will do the job
