what's the best 1/4 mile for a n/a GXE?
what's the best 1/4 mile for a n/a GXE?
yes i know there's a 1/4 mile thread about two or three space above but it's full of too much garbage!
i want numbers MAN!!! not whining about bad launches and complaints about track conditions.
i'm asking this because i want to go to the track soon. and i'm curious to know what a VG can do.
thanx to whoever replies with a time.

It all depends on technique. I ran a 16.346 with balding tires, an auto tranny with a tranny cooler added, and a FSTB. The balding tires help a bit, but not much, the tranny cooler just keeps my tranny from overheating, and the FSTB might help with wheel hop, but probably adds more weight than it is worth. I won't go into the details of how I accomplished this 16.346 with basically no mods because I've discussed it in detail in previous threads. The search function is your friend when it comes to topics like this, but if you're too lazy to read the thread containing track times, you are probably too lazy to use the search function. Oh well, your loss.

so what you guys seem to be saying is....
that there is some hope for a vg?
i'm just wondering if after a few common mods (eg: cai/exhaust/udp)
will i be just like the noisy honduh guys...all sound, no go...
basically should i spend my time and money on performance or looks?
keep in mind that both will be done eventually.
i'm just trying to plan my mods for 2003.
thanx for the info everyone

yeah hope for high 15's, but this is the thing...after all the basic bolt-ons are done, you will not see lower than high 15's unless you SPEND GOOD MONEY to make it faster!(ie- motor work, nitrous, turbo/SC)

the only way to make a gxe fast is to convert it to a 5spd first (excluding turbo, nos, etc). then add the mods. that's my .02.

just remember who's given you advice along the way
to clear some things up i assume we're talking about VG autos so that throws the 5speed swap out the window. Also i assume we're talking NA so Jon doesn't qualify w/ his NOS so we'd have to categorize the boosted (turbo/NOS) as far as i know Nevin's VG auto holds the NA record at 15.4. PJ ran a 15.99 which is what I plan to take down next.

ummmm, yeah....so I guess being able to beat VEs in a GXE with I/E, cams and headwork doesn't count then right....

you work with what you got...i don't see you VE guys doing motor work or anything like that (aside from a few custom turbo applications i assume still aren't finished.) It's no secret a VG can be built up. So can the auto tranny. I've looked into the 5 speed swap but I think the auto i'm building will suit me fine (and level 10 is no where in this equation)
*sigh* its funny how you say all this yet you've never experienced it first hand...I have, see it first before you make assumptions!

i was merely stating my opinion--that converting to manual then building up the engine would be most logical in my case. my tranny crapped out at 75K, and there's no way i'm putting in loads of mods for it to die again at 120K. i've added the udp and didn't see as much results as i would've seen if i had had a manual. same goes with other mods.
Da Max
i never said i experienced anything firsthand. i think it's great that you have and represented for us gxe's. the point is i don't race my maxima...i don't even drive it anymore. if i were to, then hypothetically, a conversion is the most cost-effective and durable solution to me. once your tranny is there, then you can build the engine around that.
