I have a 1990, 3rd Gen Maxima, it has the sonar suspension as I think all came with. I am wondering if this will be affected by the replacement of the springs with some sport / racing that will drop it 2-3 inches or less if the shocks won't be able to handle it. Thanks, I'm relying on you guys, cause you are the ones that know my car best! Thanks for the help and I hope you had a happy holiday whatever you celebrated! Thanks again.

Well..............
If you lower that car 2-3 inches you'll be scraping every speedbump and curb on the road as well as dangerous debris!! also I'm not real sure on the Sonar Suspension shock realiability, but I'm pretty sure if OEMs haven't been replaced and you're still riding on the 10 year old factory equipment(which is hard to believe anyways) you'll have some probs with an excessive drop(IMO, 1.75 or lower!) I'd see what kind of replacement performance shocks your car can use (if not the regular Tokicos, etc.) first before you get springs that low!! by the way the lowest avilable right now is 2" drop Sprint springs unless you get a "custom cut"!! My dads first gen Max had Sonar II and it worked up until we sold the car in '94, but I didn't really get to analyze the system enough to fully understand it past the adjustable stiffness. hope this helps

If you want my advice, get rid of the Sonar II suspension. I've heard they cost $1000 or more to replace when they go out. So if you want my advice, pay the $400 or $500 and get Tokicos or Konis or something. Just have them replace the whole suspension. The people I go to said it's a real ***** to deal with and that modding it with springs or whatever is a bad idea.
