Re: 1992 Maxima SE dumping fuel

Did you ever check the fuel pressure?

It could be the fuel pressure regulator is bad and causing abnormally high fuel pressure.

Maybe one of the injectors are malfunctioning and either leaking fuel or stuck open or not closing completely or something?

Check the vac lint that goes to the FPR..if there's gas in the line..FPR is shot..but it might be bad even if there isn't..but it's a quick check. And you must know that our cars are notorious for fuel injector probs, so you might have some leakers. After you figure it out, your cat might eat it pretty soon, they don't take too well to raw fuel.

If this is the prob and you pull the bad one, it might run better, but with a miss. Also, you might want to pull the plugs and smell them. Any plug wil a strong gas smell is getting too much gas. Of course all cyls could be getting too much, then these two checks would not reveal the problem, but would eliminate some. If all cylc are getting too much, then it could be your FPR. I have run my car with the FPR disconnected (essential the injectors see max pressure) and never had this prob. Then again, if the FPR is leaking, fuel gets sucked in through the vac line and that would explain your prob. Hope this helps.

Your computer could also be the culprit. The FSM gives some troubleshooting when dealing with the fuel injection system. The computer could be screwing up so that its not controlling the injectors and they are running all the time.

You still should do all the things we discussed earlier.

ITS YOUR O2 sensor!!!

look for the 4th engine mount, behind the engine itself. there sould be a connection that is mounted to the mount. thats the O2 sensor dissconect that sucker and see if your car runs better. if soo then its your O2 sensor thats bad.... the car wont feel 100% better when you unplug it but you will beable to tell if the problem is still there.... i had the same prob.. i spent about 100 bucks before i got a new O2 senosr...

Did you put oil on the o-rings of the injectors? They break easily and could be dumping fuel.

If the injectors 0-rings are fubar'd on install, it will allow fuel to leak PAST AND AROUND the injector itself. I think it maybe a injector or o-ring like the above person mentioned.

Yeah you can check the resistance on the injectors to see if they are bad..ether way, they have to come out.
