Is it possible to use a different model knock sensor?

As you know, the 92se-ve30de knock sensor is buried under the intake manifold. Would it be possible to substitute a different sensor like this one from a 300zx 90-95 which mounts right under the plenum.

What do you mean? Unhook the stock one and try to place that one somewhere else on the engine?

Yea. That sensor from the 300zx is the same that's used on the 95-99 maxima se-ve30de.

Probably the same thing. Call up a Nissan dealer and cross reference the part numbers.

No but I need to. I just had to spend $400 getting 3 $1 freeze plugs replaced on the back of the motor, between the block and transmission. Trans had to be pulled. It's gonna cost that much to get the KS replced. I was just thinking, since all it does it detect knocking/pinging, I should be able to use the one that mounts in an easier place.

I have it in hand but I forgot to order the sub-harness for it (might as well replace that since they seem to corrode). Upon receipt of that, I will replace it as soon as I get a few free hours. Maybe next weekend.

So, you're saying that i only takes a few hours to replace this part? If this is the case, I need to change mine. I have a mechanice friend that will be able to help me through the process along with a FSM. I'd figure this is a process that you will have parts all over the place and will take a couple days.

Nope, just gotta take the intake plenum and intake manifold off. You'll have to drain a little coolant and you'll need the 3 intake manifold/plenum gaskets. That's about it. But then again I took my cylinder heads off to replace my VTCs and exhaust studs. Made drilling them out a lot easier
