Tranny recall??? why not??
#1
I posted somthing under heavanlyones tranny question about this, but I was hoping more people had some more input...with all of our failing trannies, this is inevitible problem it seems, why was the never a tranny recall? Seems to me theres plenty of evidence that there is a problem with them, hey lets all take it up with Nissan and sue! I know theres plenty of us out there to win!!! maybe somone can tell me how they decide to recall, and why we dont have one??

I would love that, but.......
in reality, Nissan would never go for it, and its a very hard case to prove. yes many of our cars trannys die, but you have to consider the mileage, how each paerson uses the car and age of our cars. Nissan would lose a lot of money putting new $4k trannys into 10 year old cars!!! even doing rebuilds at the average of $2K would kick the sh*t out of their pockets. its just not financially reasonable for them, and as much as I would like for a recall to happen, I'd unfortunately have to doubt that it will since every 3rd gen out there will be at the dealer plaeding for a rebuild or newer! Cause I damn sure would be outside at 6am sharp crapped out tranny and all(yeah, I'd break it the night before, torque brake it like a ****!!!)

the trannies in 92-94 Maximas seem to be MUCH more reliable than the 89-91 trannies...
that for one tells me they knew about the problem and fixed it back then.
the second thing is that the dying tranny isn't a safety issue.. there's no need to recall a bunch of cars that have dead trannies after 100k miles.. had they begun to explode when they hit 100k or something, THEN they'd have to issue a recall.
According to Nissan and the Gov't, this is just a maintenance thing. You will get nowhere with anyone if you scream about a recall for the transmission of a 10 yr old car.

so I guess if we had them go early on we could have a case like lets say Its was 1993 or sumthin and they were all going out, that would be a big problem?? I think Nissan could afford it....but your right its too late for a 3rd gen , I just hope they recognize their faults, and all the probs weve had.

They did something to that effect with the 2k autos..
the tranny ecu was causing it to shift too slowly and would burn up the clutches in a very short time.. (like 5k miles on a few cars)..
Nissan issued a TSB (tech service bulletin) to all nissan dealers and techs, and reprogrammed the ECU to shift quicker. many people still had to have their brand new trannies rebuilt just a few months after buying the cars..
the problem was only seen in the people who drove the **** outta them though- like Russ did with his 2k.. (he's one of the ones who started the whole tranny mess with Nissan this time around)..
a 6 mo old car, yeah- it'll get fixed.. a 6 yr old car.. hell no. they'll just tell you to rebuild it yourself and get on with your life..
hope that helped clear things up a little.. nissan's not being a-holes about it, they just didn't have a perfect design to begin with, and most cars don't have problems until 6-8-10 yrs down the road.. not bad compared to most domestics.

what's with everyone and there ichy pocket books trying to dig out of Nissan's pocket?
These are 10 yr. old cars, that most the time are driven hard because of their performance capabilities. Auto tranny's aren't the strongest machines in the world to begin with, and with neglect they break. It's a part of life. These cars are DAMN good as far as reliability goes, it's not going to be perfect with over 100k on the odometer.
I drive my car like i hate it. Tranny should have been flushed long ago, Timing Belt i think is actually the stock one with 150k on it (should be changed at 60k!). I rev and hotrod the **** out of it. And the only problem i've had is my antenna, window regulator, o2 sensor, and waterpump. If you have concerns about your car then sell the damn thing and get something else. But it won't be perfect either so your pretty much screwed.

god I never said I hated Nissan, I love Nissan, and I have no intrest in digging money out of their pockets, I'll leave that up to them.
This was just an idea, and more or less my curiosity about a subject I dont know much about, thats why I aksed for input. I didnt asked to ripped a new ******* over it.
I guess nissan uses the knowledge of 3rd gen probs and finds ways to improve on newer models. I never expected a recall at 100k plus, But Im also not aware of what milage everyones was when it died. Ive heard like 87k, and to me , that shouldnt happen. Oh well.......

I didn't say it to chew your *** out or flame or anything. I simply stated the fact that lately everyone pops up with a recall they want on there 10 year old car.
That's like asking Sony to replace a CD player because it won't play the CD that you threw across the room and taped back togeather you know. Or asking Nissan to replace the engine because it should have run without oil.
-shrug-
**** breaks down.
