I have a friend who has a 93 GXE. We are trying to get a pioneer head unit. We took out the stereo and inserted the new unit. We have the harness for the back of the radio. There's the harness and then the wire from the antenna. When we power up the radio, it doesn't work. Do we need the wire for the antenna (two pronged wire) in order for the stereo to turn on? What all is involved in the replacement? Any help is appreciated.

Furthermore, we need to get a power wire through the firewall under the hood to the battery. How do you all bring the wire through? It needs to go from the positive battery terminal to the trunk, where the amplifier is.

when i put my head unit into my 91 gxe i had to buy an adaptor for my antena wire so it would fit into the head unit. Im not sure that not having this wire in would make the head unit not turn on thouhgh...as far as running power wire to the trunk i drilled a hole in the fire wall right above the gas pedal...when trying to run the wire from the interior to the trunk run it through the back seats between the upper and lower part of the seat.

I drilled to the left of the brake pedal under the dash....just have to make sure u get far enough over or you'll drill into the power brake booster It was a straighter shot to the battery is why i did it there instead of over by the gas pedal.

There is absolutely no need to drill holes in your car to run power wire..
It's much cleaner and safer to run it through the existing grommets on the inside of the left fender well.
Remove the black plastic liner on the inside of the fender and you'll see what I'm talking about. it comes out well up inside the dash and away from anything else in the car. you can then easily run it under your kickpanel and down the side of the car, without having to worry about maneuvering around pedals and the like.

also saves hassles from shorting out the wire on a shoddily drilled hole without a grommet (not that anyone here would EVER run a power wire without a grommet!)

i had a sony deck once that wouldn't turn on without the antenna plugged in i'm pretty sure it happened when trying to install into my dad's 3rd gen. probably some funky deal with the power antenna. you might try disconnecting the power ant. lead coming from the stereo and see if it works then. i use a pioneer car deck in the house powered by a ac-dc converter and have no antenna plugged in, works just fine.

unless you're on the 240 forums, and then I'm just a know-it-all-*******-grip-driver.

Well, at least you can tell this guy is using the search function!
