restoring engine compression....

did a search for this product but didn't find anything but anyways, i saw this product called Engine Restorer in my Motor Trend mag. It claims it can restore the engine's compression by coating the cylinder walls when u pour it into the oil. any opinions on this? i'm tempted to try it...unless there are potential negative side affects. anyways here's a link: http://www.restoreusa.com/restorer.html

If you ran a regular compression test, then added alittle oil to each cylinder and it increases compression. That shows the engine is suffering from worn piston rings. Generally products like that don't work well or sometimes at all. Do a regular compression test first.

Wow, now that a Newbie question.

The max requires a lot of maintainance (just like every other car), oxygen sensor, knock sensor, Injector cleaning, Throttle positioning sensor, fuel filter, and the list goes on and on.

But to better answer your question, piston rings are only done when compression is bad, and that can only be guages with a compression test. Using good oil and doing oil/filter changes are the most important regular mainatanance items for any engine.

Piston rings should easily last 150-200k miles, on a well kept up car.

but that is not to say there is damage or wear.. everymax is different just get it checked out. just like a timing belt could go at anytime... its just dependson wear and tear. how hard you drive. the length taht the part has been used for, the enviroment.

just to be safe get the compression test done... heck get a tune up and get the max checked up.
