Timing belt replacement cost?

I have a 94 GXE with 80K miles, and I've read that the timing belt on this motor needs to be replaced after 60K. I was wondering what I should expect to pay to have this done.

Also, I need new brake pads. Is there anything weird about this car that's going to cause that to be more expensive than normal?

Thanks.

concerning pads, I believe it should run you about $80+ tax (that's assuming the mechanic charges you about $30 for the pads and $50 for labor depending on how much they charge for labor in your area) Make sure you do get lifetime warranty on the pads so next time you only have to pay for labor.

Since you have a gxe then you have the vg motor.
Concerning the timing belt, you are usually looking at $200 minimum for labor(again depending how much they charge for labor.) The belt itself is like 15 bucks or so. While you're doing that you should also try to get the waterpump and tensioner done at the same time, and that bumps the price up a little more ( by another $100?) not too sure about how much, but it's adviceable to get that done.Goodluck and sorry to hear about your sunroof.

AIS book says $409.50 labor + $26.92 labor. That's a bit high. I spent about $500 with timing belt, water pump, tensioner and new assy drive belt. Not much in parts, but it is a big job. Not hard to do yourself if your reasonably mechanical and are careful.

should be around $300-350 to get timing belt and water pump done. might as well do both at the same time, it will make it much easier.
