Alarm

I have a 93 SE, which I just got. I have had problems with the alarm just going off for no reason. Today it kept going off every five min. I pulled both the relay for the alarm, and the fuse for the alarm, but it still went off. So I put the fuse back in, and pulled the horn fuse. This allowed it the security light to flash and go off like it is supposed to (which it kept flashing with the fuse out). My owners manual and my chiltons manual do not say anything about the alarm. Has any one had similar problems.
Thanks

is this some kind of factory alarm? i have a crappy factory alarm on mine that i cant figure out. its supposed to go off when the door is opened without unlocking it with the key. like if a thief broke a window and unlocked the door from the inside. but it never works like it is supposed to. it didnt work the three or four times my radio was stolen. but then it constantly goes off for no reason. theres not even a remote w/ it and i have to stick the key in the door for the thing to shut up. i guess i'm just gonna have to get an aftermarket alarm. oh well
James, you are correct abotu the operation of the alarm. I don't know why it's falsing on you all the time, but the ONLY way to turn the factory alarm off is to stick the key in the driver's door and turn it.. It says so in the manual.
There never were any remotes that came with it, it's just a basic little alarm that doesn't have shock sensors or anything- as you said, they jsut sense when the door is opened without being unlocked by a key (or the button on the inside.)
that may be why it didn't go off when your stereo was stolen- they broke the window, then unlocked the doors using the unlock button. had they lifted the mechanical lock and opened the door, it would/should have gone off.
BTW, these alarms are very easy to "disable" when installing an aftermarket alarm. I would HIGHLY recommend one if you live in an area that gets broken into a lot, or if you have any mods on the car at all- whether stereo, apperarance, or engine/suspension. If you've got any mods that can bee seen/noticed on the street, people WILL watch where you go and find out where you live. I constantly see people driving by my house and stopping in front of my car at 2-3am. I also have a GOOD alarm and several big dogs next door.
(and a Louisville Slugger under my bed)

see thats the thing. my power locks dont work so they must have had to unlock them with the mechanical locks. the alarm should have gone off. my neighborhood is pretty bad. my cars been broken into about 4 times. radio been stolen three of the four times. my brother had a cutlass w/ wire rims and a 10 switch hydraulic setup which was stolen. the punks who stole it reached under my dads car which was parked in front of the cutlass, and ripped up the linkage in the transmission, rolled my dads car into the street and then took the cutlass. man they got guts around here. last time my radio was stolen, they did it while all my neighbors were watching it was like 11:30 pm. they called the cops during the break in and it took the police an hour to get here. when i get my rims and all that, i'll try and talk my parents into letting me park in the garage. i guess we'll just have to move to the suburbs. anyone know about how much a good alarm with installation would cost? i would want a really good one.
My alarm was about $350 installed. It's a Clifford 700IQ.
that's an older model and Clifford has come out with more awesome stuff since then for about the same price.
Basically a good alarm will start about $300 installed, then go up from there.
I HIGHLY recommend that as your first mod. screw the rims and stereo until you have an alarm AND park in the garage. don't wanna sound rude, but I think it would be stupid to spend money on mods for your car, only to let someone steal it while you're inside sleeping. if you can't protect the car by locking it up, then don't waste your money. you'd almost be better off to just hand the *******s $2000 instead of letting them steal your rims and !@#!@ up your car in the process. see my logic?
I hope it never happens to ya again, but from what it sounds like, those guys aren't going to stop at a simple alarm. I would do something more than just that. maybe add an alarm with strobes to the outside of your house, so that whenever your car is being tampered with, the house alarm goes off, strobes start going, etc etc. maybe keep a few hungry rottweilers in some "trap door" on the house that opens when the alarm goes off.. hehe
(btw, in some import magazines and other places, I've seen some cars with flame throwers that shoot flames 10ft out from the sides of the car, just under the doors. whoever's standing next to the car is torched from head to toe. ouch.)

yeah your right. i guess i'll get an alarm next. what about those alarms that send electric currents through your whole car, so that when someone touches it, they get the crap shocked out of them. ha ha
Those alarms are a crock of ****, because they're so easy to get around, it's not even funny. When dry, paint is an insulator, so the only place you will get shocked is if you touch bare metal on the car.
You can also simply touch a wire from the car to ground and it will short the whole thing out. and you won't have to worry about it.
About the only thing you can do is stick small metal plates on the underside of the door handles, but all they have to do is go through a window and they'll never get shocked.
It doesn't do much to the people anyway, other than startle the **** out of them and then they get mad and mess up your car.
