Finally, no stall and hesitation!

Finally, no stall and hesitation!
My car is Maxima SE 92, DOHC engine.
From last September, I had experienced a tough time with my maxima.
If the engine was cold, then the idle speed fluctuated from 0-1000rpm
frequently. Sometimes the engine stalled. After the engine was warmed
up, it was better, but still had this problem. When I drived my
car, sometimes I can feel the car shaking, like someone turn off the
key then turn it on. The car even stalled at high-way speed twice.
Everyday I was very scared to drive my car from home to school,
especially when I stopped at the traffic light.
At first I changed the spark-plugs (NGK platinum), but no use. Then
I changed the fuel filter, air filter, battery, cleaned the fuel
injectors, still no use. When the day became cold, my car was worse.
So finally I drove my car to the local dealer and asked them to diagnose it. After 3 days, the dealer told me that "The ignition
coils break down when hot". They recommended me replace all the coils
. At first I doubt that because I don't believe that 6 coils fail at
the same time. So I drove back and measure the resistance of each
coil. It seems that every coil is ok, the resitance is around 0.8 Ohm.
So I still used the old coils and the car was still very bad.
Last month, I found someone said that wrapping the coils with
elecrical tape would help. So I did that. But it was only better for
a few days, then it went back to bad again. About 3 weeks ago, my car stalled again at high way. The good thing is I was at the righ side
lane so I pulled it over as soon as possible. I was really scared and
frustrated at that time. So I decided to replace all the 6 coils, no
matter how expensive it will be. So I spent about $400 for all 6 coils
, and the car is totally good now!
Hope my experience would help somebody out.

I'm scared to spend $400 more dollars on replacing the coils. I just checked and cleaned all the harness connectors and the throttle body. Don't know if it is fixed, but boy what power! I've only driven a few miles, the real test is making it past two months. I had the stalling bucking jerking thing for months, then replaced the plugs (w/NGKs) and the problem disappeared for two months (over 1500 miles) and is now suddenly BACK! I had a Nissan tech tell me that I can check the coils by unplugging them one at a time...then if I noticed a change in idle speed or engine noise then the coil was good, if not then the coil obviously wasn't working anyway.

well, for my case, the coils are not totally out of service.
Sometimes they were working, sometimes they were not working.
So the engine sometimes stalled, sometimes working well.

Idont know whats your real problem with your car. Maybe it has to do with that knock senser or something??
I'm still tryin gto figure out stuff wrong wiht my max

I bought that from Courtesy Nissan of Texas, that's the lowest price
I can find. Probably you should buy the rubber protectors if you can
not pull the old ones out. Good luck.

It's not that it isn't working all the time. It just stalls or jerks when it feels like it. Whether it is hot or cold (the engine or the weather), whether on cruise control or in the city. I just can't figure it out. I'm gonna drive a couple hundred miles today and see what it does.

I'm right now since I can't figure out where that red temperature senser is (read my recent other post for details) I'm going to try to do some fuel injector cleaning with an additive, then I'm going to try to reset my ECU by disconnecting the battery for a long time.

Man, at least I'm not alone. I have a 94 se and I thought I had fixed the problem. I think it has to do with my throttle position sensor. My car runs like crap, but on Saturday I took it to the mechanic and he pulled of the sensor and blew in it and then pluged it back in. The car ran like a dream, no problems at all. It even quit shifting hard. But now its back to acting up. I think I'm going to try to replace the sensor and see how that go's.

So far so good with a known to be good MAFS. I also cleaned the throttle body and the connections at the MAFS and TPS. I've only driven 125 miles, but it would usually act up by now. I'm hoping and praying the jerking is done for good. I'll keep everyone updated.

If your car runs better after the engine is heated up, probably the
coils are bad.
If you want to change the coils,I suggest you replace them all.
Why? Let me tell you my story. First, I replaced the 3 front coils (2
of them are clearly cracked), but the car still ran very bad. After I
replaced the 3 back coils, the car runs much better now, not only no
stall, but also the performance. My car runs great now.
Trust me, you will find it worths $400 to fix that.

The known to be good did not fix the problem, it is BACK! Switching coils with known to be good coils and praying! Does anyone know if bad coils make the tach fluctuate?
