Key code for 1989 Maxima GXE?

Hi,

I lost my only key for my 1989 Maxima GXE. I used to sell Nissans a loooong time ago, and I recall something about a key code being listed either in the glove compartment or somewhere underneath the dashboard (passenger-side). Does anyone know where this code can be found? I believe I can go to the parts department at the local dealership and get a new key made, provided that I have the key code.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

well same thing happen to me but i didnt know my code untill one day searching and this is what i found

Ok first get a flashlight and, if your back is stiff, someone more flexible. Open the front passenger door and slide the seat back. Get on your back and with the flash light, look up under the dash, toward your left (this would be on the door's side of the dash). You should see a brass colored box with a wire harness and wires attached to it. You might see a label that says "Digital Touch Entry Control Unit" or something like that. You should also see two or three lines of code on the label. One of the lines should begin with the letter "S". Record the last 7 NUMBERS on that line, that's the master key number (well it should be).

Now, wiggle out of the car and shut the door. Press the button labeled "C"/"ST", where "C" is on the top and "ST" is on the bottom. Now enter the seven digit master key and you should hear a constant tone sound, during this period, enter a 5 to 7 digit entry key, this cannot match the master key. There also cannot be three digits in a row that use the same button, I.E. 909xxx or something like that. After you've entered the code, wait for the tone to stop, press "LCK"/"9|0" to lock the doors (HAVE A KEY READY JUST IN CASE YOUR CODE DOESN'T WORK STUPID!). Now press "C"/"ST" and enter your new code, the doors should unlock, if the doors do not unlock, press the "WDW"/"5|6" key and see if your front windows roll down. If they don't, the code operation didn't work, give me an email or something. If it did, then your door lock timer is fried and you need a new one. You might want to email me on that one too!

I don't think you guys are talking about the same key code...

the one listed on the keyless entry system is the master "password" for the keyless entry system on the GXEs. As far as I know, this has NOTHING to do with the actual car key itself.

I'm goign to unlock the thread for further discussion. Does someone in the know have useful input here?

what he is asking has nothing to do with the keyless entry. better getting new key made up by a lock smith. remove the tumber from the trunk and have a new key made. i dont think nissan can cut a key with a set of numbers. or use the keyless entry to get in your car and install a push button start to over ride the key

Lock smith. the only way to get a new key if you dont have the key's code. originally came on a sticker in the glove box, iirc, or from having a good locksmith re-find the code (< ask me how I know...).

Well here is a question...to those who are using the key codes...

Since you have 1l2 and 3l4 and such...do you press once for 1 and twice for 2?

No, just once for either number. You're not texting the key code.

haha...true.

I'm being dense...but just lemme get it right.

Say I want to do 3465871...I would press the 3l4 button for the 3, then again for the 4...the the 5l6 button for the 6 and again for the 5?

I know...your reading this and going "what the **** doesn't he understand..."

So am I....so am I...

Right-o! You would essentially be pushing 3/4, 3/4, 5/6, 5/6, 7/8, 7/8, 1/2 in order to enter the code you listed.

but i think you can't have the same button 3x in a row.. so 14348 would not work as a code, but 13484 would.

i think it cant be more than 2x in a row, 5/6 5/6 1/2 ect. i think you need a different button for each character in the code
