Replace Tie Rod "94 GXE

Hey Guys,
New to Maxima and new to the forum !
Just got a '94 with 114K on her and it is in pretty good shape. I am experiencing a knock on the left side which I was told was the tie rod by a mechanic who had it up on the lift. How difficult is the tie rod to replace and does anyone have a step by step they can send. I hate to stick it in the shop if it's not too difficult.
Thanks for all the assistance and am looking forward to enjoying my 3rd Gen. (without that knock and the excessive tire wear I am having on the right side...

Re: Replace Tie Rod "94 GXE

Did your mech say if it's the inner or outer tie rods. From my experience, depending on how "badly" either tie rods are worn it's best to replace both. The reason I say both is because I've seen cases where we'll diagnose a tie rod as being bad due to the excessive play but after replacing that tie rod and rechecking them we might notice the other tie rod had some play also. If one is extremely worn it's harder to notice if the other has any play. If you really want to be bad *** replace all four, what the hell. Now onto your question is it a DIY job, yes it is. I recently replaced my rack and pinion bellows which requires removal of the outer tie rod which can be done with average hand tools. Now the inner rod may require a special tool to turn the rod, but maybe not. I didn't really take a good look at my inner when I did the bellow. Some might say you will need a alignment, which may be correct. But if you're careful and count the number of turns when removing the outer rod an alignment may not needed, at least not right away. The inner rod doesn't have any bearings on alignment issues. I did mine that way for various reasons, your reasons may differ. If you need any suggestion you can pm/email me or we can contiune on this thread so to help others.

Hey guys,
For those of you who have replaced or had your inner tie rod replaced:
What was going on with the car to cause it to be replaced.

Thanks
