92 se 5-spd

Whats up guys, I might be possibly buying a 92 5spd from a dealer in Chicago, and was wondering if it sounds like a good deal. It's black on black leather and only has 36K miles (carfax certified). It has some dents and scratches, but there is no rust. The interior is in near perfect condition. However, they were reconditioning it so I wasnt able to drive it. They were rebuilding the VTC's which they claim is costing $1400. It had a factory BOSE, but there is an aftermarket headunit which is missing the faceplate. It also has ABS. They are asking $5997 for it, which is kinda high. Is there anything I should look out for when driving it, besides the basic things? Let me know what you guys think! Thanks alot!

But they're replacing them right?

If they're not knock off $1400 and then do it yourself.

I would pay up to $6k for that car. You better get it and take care of it, that thing isnt even broken in yet.

yeah i want to see it too. where is it at? i would love to see a black and black leater VE 5-speed with that low of miles. you dont have to worry about me buying it, i just sold my VE 5speed and bought a VG auto for the family (girlfriend cant drive stick). im in chicago too. dont tell todamax though, he might get it from you . good luck man, i would get it. offer them like $5 for it. it was probably a trade in and im sure they only gave like $3k for it if that. is at a nissan dealer, if so let me know. my boy works at one, maybe its the one he works at.

Buy it before some else does, this is a deal not to let go. If I was in Chicago that thing would be parked in my garage being stored and modded. Then sell it for more money down the road to some sucker on maxima.org It's a good investment get it but make sure you get it checked out by a good mechanic and yeah the VTC's at 36k is a little weird but anything is possible in a 11 year old car.

Only 36K miles? Hard to believe. It should have original Bridgstone tires still. Check tread wear to make sure they aren't BS-ing you with the mileage. If the tires aren't originals you should be skeptical about it.

36k miles on a 92 is great. Now if the car has a broken spedo then it could have alot more on it. Carfax is a good reference but not failsafe. Drive it, if you like it buy it.

I bought my 92 3 years ago with 56k on it, anything is possible. The car could have set in some old ladies garage for the last 6 years collecting dust and one day she is dead and the kids sell it. who knows...

Well before I left the other day I put some money down for them to hold it, and they will refund it if I dont like it after a test drive. I was wondering also if it really is $1400 to rebuild, not replace, the VTC's for parts and labor. I'll just have to see what all they have done with it before I settle on a price.

It is very expensive to get the VTC's replaced (over $400 each just for the sprockets) The rebuild kit is cheap, but is only a temporary fix. The cheapest way to fix it is to ground out the VTC selanoid or just live with the ticking. I grounded mine but it idoled funny so I put in a quick disconnect so I can pop the hood and change it if it drives me crazy. I am thinking of putting in a switch instead.

Well they just called me and said the car was done, so I will be goin over there tomorrow to drive it. If everything drives right, what do you guys think would be a good price to shoot for? They are asking $5997 right now. The radio has no face plate, the muffler is rusty, and there are a couple of noticable dents and scratches.

REBUILT vtc's cost nowhere NEAR $1400 (rebuild kit is cheap). NEW vtc's yes.

Tell them you're not stupid enough to believe rebuilt vtc's cost that much. In the same breath, try not to **** em off cuz this car's not gonna come around again.
