Removing side moldings....HELP?!?!?!
I am getting the whole car repainted but I want to remove the side moldings on the doors. I know many have done it. I just want to know what tool to use and how to do it. I also understand that it is stuck on by glue. What should I use to remove the gluey substance?

you SHOULD use a heat gun, if not...a hair dryer.
1) Heat up the VERY end/beginning of the molding
2) Start to peel it off w/ a flat head screw driver (carefully)
3) The moldings will peel off easily...
4) Do that to all 4
5) you'll 2 lines of sticker residue goin across each molding
6) Use either a high speed buffer OR goof off/goo gone to get the residue off. (it will take a while using the goof off)
any onther ?s?

Thats if the place you're taking it to does that. I depends, some body shops suck and they'll just paint the moldings on the car and not paint under them.

Check out my website, bro.
I put pretty detailed instructions on what to do when removing the guards. I'm no expert, but I did accomplish this arduous task with minimal scratches to the paint once I was done. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours finishing this, though. It's very labor intensive.
Good luck with it.

Dude, trust me on this one, go to a body shop & have them remove the sticky tape. How much for a can of glue remover? I paid down here in New Zealand $15 for the mto remove that stuff. Took them 10 minutes where if will take you a couple of hours!!! Look on my site to see

Those pin stripe removal erasers work great for sticky adhesives
Check out:

This thing (when coupled with the drill adaptor) lets you basically "erase" the sticky goo off your paint once you've removed the moldings. I did all four of my doors in about an hour with the aid of this thing, an electric drill, and some 3M Tar and Grease remover.

The spinning disc & solvent also work great on decals, bumper stickers, and tree sap.

take a breath and calm down, I didnt mean YOU I meant you could have them painted as well when you get the car repainted since you said " the side moldings turned brownish so why would i have them taken off and put back on a new white car?" then they would match.

i used 3m spray adhesive remover cost $8 at local auto store probly get it cheaper at wal-mart. it works best if u spray it on let it soak in for a few minutes then spray again and soak do this a few times then scrape it off carefully. i used a plastic windshield ice scraper and it turned out pretty good.
