Does anyone know how to replace the rear disc pads on a '93 SE 5-speed? I can do the fronts easily, but I need to know the proper tool and technique to do the rears.

I can't find a manual locally, and I'm too impatient to mail order one. I would appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Bary

Actually...

The difference between the front and rear brakes is that the rear brakes also function as the parking brake. The caliper piston is linked to the parking brake cable, and to retract the piston into the caliper to allow the new brake pads (which are thicker due to more material) you must use a tool to screw the piston back into the caliper. I don't know what that tool is, but I used a needle-nosed pair of pliers to catch the things and turn the piston. Other than that, its pretty much straight forward....

like Czar mentioned, you'll need to use a needle-nose plier to turn the piston CLOCKWISE until it's seated in the caliper. Position it so that one of your slots is aligned with the locating nib on the brake pad when the caliper is installed (from the Haynes manual).

Yup.. just use needle nose pliers and turn it back in.

I've also found that the "key" I use to remove the grinding discs from my disc grinder fits perfectly in those grooves.. it makes screwing the piston back in extremely easy..

just thought I'd share with you guys.
