Need advice with AC problem Please help.
My AC (89 maxima VG of course) is no longer cooling properly. I belive that it is just low on refrigerant but that usually only happens when you have a leak right? Compressor kicks in and runs, system does cool slightly.
I have been wondering if within the 3rd gen maxima's 89-94? that the regrigerant was switched to r134 and if I could simply swap out a compressor and lines from one of those models.
I would think that maybe by 94 the refrigerant could have been r134 in the maximas, but these cars would have the VE engine correct?
Would a compressor from a 94 VE fit and mount in an 89 VG?
Would the lines also fit?
If this is true, then I could replace these myself and have a shop evac and fill the system with r134.
If this would not work, should I go with r12 again or should I retro-fit and would the retro-fit cool as well as the r12 (I have heard that it would not)?
What have you guys done with your AC when it quit cooling and were you happy with the results? Also could you share what it cost you?
Thanks a bunch!
