5 spd trans problems

OK I tried and tried the search engine, it just keeps telling me I don't have permission to view the page. So I'll just post the question and live with any negative feedback. I'm new to Maximas and this forum (I'm a recovering Saab owner). Anyways, I recently purchased a 91 Maxima - 5 spd which has developed a serious tranny problem. The car can no longer hold reverse and sounds grouly in first gear. I'm guessing that the reverse idler shaft bearing(s)is gone. My impression of transmission repair shops is similar to that of other posts I've read. So, I'm wondering if anyone has tackled this themselves. Any advice on this will be appreciated. Also, an exploded view of the transaxle would be helpful, if anyone knows where to find one.

Thanks

There are a couple in a factory service manual if you can get a hold of one of those.

i took mine apart to fix the input shaft bearing. if you have pretty good mechanical skills this tranny is pretty easy to work on.
