Spring Compressor

From pics and posts I gather that it works like this:
It attaches to the top and bottom of the spring, and then you clamp it down and it compresses the spring. While it holds like that you take off the strut? Then when you attach everything back you release the hold on the spring and it decompresses the spring?

I'm asking because I'm going to be chaning my strut mounts soon, and at first I was going to pay a mechanic to do it but if it's not too hard I'll just do it myself. How much does the rental usually cost from autozone or pep boys?

Rental depends on where you go, but is usually fully refunded. Call ahead and ask them.

Also, get yourself a repair manual (Chiltons or Haynes) if you don't have one yet. From your questions, it sounds like you don't.

Read throught the procedure, if you still have questions, then ask.

I just changed my springs. Pep-Boys no longer rents them so I had to buy one. $49 When I was done They took them back for a full refund. Check my home page or click here below. Good luck it wasn't sooo bad.

just make sure it is FULLY compressed and that the top mount is very loose before you take off the top strut bolt...i learned that the hard way.

A couple guys and I compressed the springs on mine if that's what your talking about. We went to rent a spring compressor but the ones they had were way to big for the springs and would work so we just used a lot of vise grip work and finally got them on.......Not a fun job but we did it.

Did the same thing

Me my friends put lowering springs on his car. We used one of those ghetto spring compressors for 50 bucks as well. Just that it takes FOREVER and its trobulesome as hell to setup. And like someone already implied it's pretty dangerous cause if improperly done the spring can go BOING on you and cause harm. If I were you I'd just shell out the money save your self the trouble
