i need a new motor !
Well it happened. My VE30DE got the dreaded vtc knock. I cant take it anymore ! id like to rebuild them but i also want a faster car. so if its going to cost me like 2000 to fix that why not pay just as much and drop in a new motor ! possibly a better one. can i fit a 300zx vg motor into the max ? or an i stuck with another ve30de ?

in the meantime, do the vtc grounding procedure. takes 15 minutes, $8, and if your engine is old enough for the vtc's to clack, you won't notice any power loss anyway.

yes the rewire is MONEY. for me it worked without a hitch. and since it's such a small procedure, you can always undo it. try it and drive around in your new silently-running maxima for a week before you invest in a new engine.

right. mine were certainly not doing anything in my favor.
the vtcs' job is to drum up more power at low rpm's. right at first when i grounded mine, i could have sworn i noticed the car had "lost a step." i.e., some low-end torque was gone. since then though, maybe 10 days ago, the car has actually seemed to be faster.
i may be imagining it, or it may be that the ecu has detected the change and altered something to make up for it (though that seems unlikely).
just keep this stuff in mind:
1) brush off whatever metal part you choose to ground to w/ a wire brush to make sure you get a good connection.
2) buy a larger ring connector that you think you'll need, or get an assorted pack. the threads on those fuel rail crossover screws are larger than you'd think. (or at least larger than i thought)
good luck and feel free to write me an email if you have any more concerns.
