Replacing suspension.

I have just recently bought a 1991 Maxima SE, and I love it. However, the previous owner put low-rider suspension on it. I removed the front suspension and replaced it with Nissan 300zx Racing suspension and I wish to do the same to the back. However, I simply cant get the coils to compress enough to fit. Any tips on getting new rear suspension on? I tried removing the bolts that hold entire assembly together only to end up with 2 broken ratchets, scarred knuckles, sccared pride, and one very bad temper.

If you have ANY ideas, please let me know.

I didnt know the z suspension was close enough to use on the max...then again I never looked under a z.

go to a automotive store (autozone) and they rent spring conpressors that should work ok. Use the one they have for strut springs...they should be 2 seperate pieces.

The coils are a lot smaller width wise, but still fit perfectly.

Did you just replace the springs with the 300ZX Racing Suspension or the struts too?

Is the 300ZX Racing Suspension a factory part from a 300ZX or is it a after market part. Who makes this 300ZX Racing Suspension that you are using on your maxima?

Thanks

what kind of suspension do you have in there now? if the rear coils are clamped down or you have smaller springs with stock shock cartidges then all you have to do is unbolt it all and jack it up. thats what i had done with my rears. no compressor needed

It's an after market suspension from a shop here in calgary, Don't have the brand in my memory but I will find it out for you. Right now I have low riders in the back, basically, stock maxima suspension that's been cut down to 3 loops.

I tried to un bolt it all, alas, no air tools. I've already broken 3 ratchets on one bolt. Tried jacking it up, but I don't have acces to a machine shop so my 1 and a half foot breaker bar is useless.

Thank god for mastercrafts lifetime warranty.

Doesn't bounce at all, handles SO much better, I took a cloverleaf turn going 110kph with only the fronts in. Thinking of extending my axels and putting on wider tires aswell.

Too bad all I know is suspension and wiring, I'd really like to start doing some under-the-hood mods.

when i had my stock suspension clamped down it handled alot better too, because the shocks and springs are at a stiffer rate, but since i clamped it if i got tired of how it looked or ran i could just unbolt it and go back to stock. sucks that they cut the coils on ya, but you definately dont need a spring compressor to remove that. just put a whole bunch of penetrating oil on them overnight before trying to remove them again.

I'm curious.... is the 300zx suspension coilover or spring/strut combo? I had a 91 TT, but I just had it for looks and didn't do any research on how it worked or anything, so I couldn't tell you what size tires it had... let alone if it had coilovers or not. Because if it's THAT close and it has coilovers, wouldn't that be an option for our Max, since we've been hearing time and time again about how suspension options are limited for us???

I just put the backs on today, My maxima is way heavier in the front than a 300zx so it's lower in the front and raised in the back, looks really good in my opinon.

I'll take a picture and post it tommorow, after I wash it of course.
