Heater control lever...

The heat slide lever on my girlfriend's 92 SE is essentially stuck in one position now and she says it has always been very hard to move since the car was new. Likely cause?? How does one best get to it without breaking anything?

I can't do a search for some reason or I would have.

this happened to my brother's 93 se. your girlfriend is right: the lever has always been hard to move (it's a mechanical damper and not an electric control). i think the problem is deep in the dash b/c our dealer told my bro it would be hundreds of dollars to fix. i don't think he got it fixed actually. take it to someone and see what they say. if i were you, i'd first take off the dash and the stereo and poke around in there and see what's going on.

How do the trim pieces in front of the unit come off? I've never worked on a 3rd-generation Maxima before now.
