installing distributor

I recently replaced my 91 3.0 with a 93 3.0. The 93 did not come with a distributor. I.'ve already found TDC, but I need to know do I point the rotor to the #1 wire on the dist. cap, then install it. Or does anybody know the steps to do this. This is the only thing from keeping me from driving my maxima.

buy a service manual and it'll tell you how in there. I find it hard to believe you've gone this far in replacing an engine without one.

I have a Haynes manual, but it's pretty vague. Putting in an engine is fairly simple.

Just did mine,
On the distributor base/shaft (just below the teeth) is a punch mark between the two locking pin holes. On the dist. case are two lines (just above the teeth), one recessed and one extended. Line up the extended line with the punch mark. Insert dist., it should start now, and set timing with a timing light for 15 degrees BTDC (or what ever the timing plate says for your engine). Thats the best way I can explain it...
