Why 134a makes the compressor louder......

hi i saw this post to many times so hear is the answer.

134a is a lighter freon making the compressor work in a different range. Actually they say the calsonics (92-94 ve) are not designed for 134a at all. In theory its countdown until the compressor kicks out from the day you add that stuff. I had a bad leak in mine an Im running 134a in my 92 se and so far so good. Will it stand the test of time. who knows??

low side pressure is usually 1.5 times ambient tempature

thanks!

Hmmm funny.. my 93SE is 10 years old and has 195k miles on it, and it's STILL on the factory charge of R134a. but it's a ticking time bomb? yeaaaaah.

For real, that's a strong statement to make. If that was the case we would have added the compressor on the list of already known/common problems.

VTC, exh studs, window regulators, clock, door lock timers, control arm bushings, head light harness, the list goes on.

But yet the ac compressor has yet to made it on the list.

Re: Why 134a makes the compressor louder......

The brand name sticker on my compressor says NICHI-RA or something similar....so i assume thats not a calsonic, its still ticking nicely .

r134a came factory installed from LATE 92 or early 93 onwards from what i have read...so the compressors on those cars are probably best suited for r134a cuz thats what they were designed for.

If the compressors go out from doing a conversion, why do people still convert to r134a and why are there kits available for the conversion that dont have a warning label about the compressor going bad??
