trunk does not open by pressing the button
This may be due to the fact that the remote trunk release is manually disabled at the latch in the trunk... open your trunk up and locate the little square hole on the part of the latch that is connected to the car,(not the trunk lid) this should be down on the carpeted side of the latch, reach in and find a little lever and pull it up... this should turn on the remote release and allow you to open it by pushing the button... if that doesnt work then you're on your own.

25 Cent Trunk Release Fix
i had this exact prob when i first bought my 91 (used). if you hear the solenoid clicking but not popping the trunk, your release cable is probably stretched like mine was. this is how i fixed mine (cost about 12 cents)...
1. open the trunk and remove all the carpeting trim on the trunk wall closest the bumper. 6 screws and 4 fabric clips.
2. as you face the rear of the car reach down and remove the cable from the release mechanism. this is done by grabbing the cable with needle nose pliers or what have you and pulling the cable to the right (passenger side) and then lifting up. you will see the cable routing in the mechanism.
3. there should be a lead/metal ball on the end of the cable with a little rubber washer right in front of it. move the little washer away from the ball. (DO NOT REMOVE THE RUBBER WASHER!)
4. take a 1/4 oz. split shot (or two depending how stretched your cable is) from any fishing tackle box and firmly crimp it over the cable between the rubber washer and the ball. then pull the washer snug up to the split shot and reinstall the cable into the release mechanism.
5. IMPORTANT - make sure your keys are in your pocket before you close the trunk to check out your work.
6. close your trunk and try your remote release button.
hope this helps you out. good luck
