Broke or Not???
Broke or Not???
today while i was driving i rolled down the left rear passengers window and i heard a pop, and then the window wouldnt roll back up. Now when i press the button all i hear is a motor noise. My question is, did the regulartor go out or is it just off the track? If the regulator went out, i wouldnt hear the motor trying to pull it up would I? thanks. (and if its off the track, is it any easy fix?)
you can get them much cheaper from www.courtesyparts.com
also cheap here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=40018
I bought a regulator off ebay and it was nice because it came with a new motor, too. Hunt around, they are on there. I paid around $60 shipped for it, but it was a driver door. I wouldn't recommend buying one from a "stealership." You could almost afford two ebay units for the price of one.
Maxedout -- when I took mine apart, I noticed that there was a big chunk broke off one side of a plastic pulley, releasing the wire and dropping my window suddenly. There were several pieces of broken pulley in the bottom of my door. Maybe that's what your popping is.

so i pulled my door panel off and theres no way i can get to the dang regulator. my window is stuck half way down. not good seeing that i have to park outside. if i could just get the damn window up, i dont care if it works or not. i guess im going to have to take it to the 'stealership' and get ripped off.
yes, dont go to the dealership for these. We've had my maxima 13yrs now and have had to replace all of them, they kinda all went bad in a clockwise fashion throughtout the car. i think the dealership charged 150++ for the first one. Then when the 2nd went bad, just said **** it and bought the part ourselves. very easy install
look in the 3rd gen FAQs at the top of this board, there are a couple of guys that have step-by-step intstructions on how to do it. Just takes like an hour (first time -- I know some of you can do it in about 15 min. now
) with a couple of very common tools (a phillips screwdriver and I think a 10mm socket/wrench, maybe something else...can't remember).

it's not hard at all. the window is just barely held in there because the regulator is the part that holds it- and it's broken.. grab the glass and pull the window up while you're holding the up button. when it gets near the top, you'll need some way to hold the glass up.. usually I stick a piece of cardboard into the weatherstripping near the edge of the window, then pull the window up around it. it'll hold it there long enough to get the regulator out.
when you unbolt the regulator, you'll see how it comes out. hint: there's a big open rectangle at the bottom of the door. it's your friend.
only tools you'll need are a 10mm and a #3 phillips. break them all loose with the 10mm, then use the phillips to remove them easier.

thanks matt. the window was actually stuck half way down and it couldnt get it up, so we took it to a glass shop and they were able to get it up. all i need to do now is find a cheap regulator off ebay and try to install this ****. thanks for the help.
