LSD available with A/T?

Was the limited slip differential also available in the automatics or just on the sticks?
Any body know for sure?

not all of them. it was an option, according to the tranny shop that replaced my tranny. you could get the LSD in either auto or 5 spd, but it wasn't standard.

I know I'm going 2 get flamed for asking this question because I should know better, but what's the advantage of having an LSD? I have an 89SE 5sp, so I doubt that option was available then. Just being nosy

nope. it was only available with the VE engine. not even on 4th gens.

Anyway, limited slip is exactly what it sounds like.

notice when you do burnouts on your car that only one tire spins? (not that anybody ever abuses their car by doing a burnout!!!)
limited slip prevents that by making sure torque is applied to both wheels through a viscous coupling (sticking molasses between the axles in layman's terms.)

benefits are all over the place. no one-legged burnouts at the drag strip or when trying to accelerate on set roads, and accelerating out of a corner. if you auto X or track the car, you'll notice the inside wheel always spins coming off hard corners. the LSD will help stop that- not completely, as I still spin in 1st and 2nd gear, but it helps.

do a bit of searching online for limited slip or viscous limited slip (the type on the Max) for a better definition.

I have a bit of nostalgia that may contradict that statement (at least for the 5-speeds).

Notice the last item in the "standard equipment" section.

@ Matt93SE ---> U da man, bro!!! Thanks for the explanation. Now that I know what it is, it's not going 2 do me any good since they don't make them for 3rd Gen's anyway

They do make it for the 3rd gen, but only 92-94 SE models.

how come my 91se spins both wheels then? EVERY roast I've done has spun both tires...

the US spec 4th gens don't have them, no. they're now available via aftermarket after several years though.

Mixiree, when I purchased my VE, it didn't have LSD in it. after I blew it up and installed a new tranny, I installed one with LSD. but you can get them with or without it even from the factory.

Pit5bull, there have been LSD swaps done into VGs. I know a couple people tho have done them. the VE tranny will bolt right up. you just have to swap axles, hubs, carrier bearing support, and a few other things.
