Key for a 1992 Nissan Maxima.

I dont know if I have the master or valet key for my 1992 Nissan Maxima GXE. When I put the key in the key hole for the door, its hard to turn. And even when I get the lock up, when I open the door, the alarm sounds. So my question is, do the master keys have a computer chip in them?... My aunt gave me a key, but I think its the spare, because the trunk doesn't unlock when I put the key in the hole and turn it. Does someone know where I can find the master key?

If I had a pic, I could defnitely tell you what you have. I don't understand why the key is causing your alarm to go off, maybe you have a tehnical problem. There is no chip in the 89-94 Maxima keys. If the key is a small key with red plastic it is the valet key. Is your key an OEM key (i.e. does it say Nissan on it anywhere)?

Um... I have the keyless entry, but yet, shouldn't I still be able to open the doors without the alarm going off...

I didnt know what the keys looked like, but from what you've described to me, it's not the same key.

Thanks for the help. I'm seeing my aunt today, so maybe she found the real key...

The reason why the key doesn't fit in the trunk in your case is that over time, the points on the key, and the tumblers inside of the door and the ignition all wear at about the same rate...if you use the key on the trunk much less frequently, over time that difference will really add up, and the key will no longer fit the tumblers inside of the lock on the trunk, so it won't open anymore. Same thing has happened on all of my family's cars...

The dealer told me they only go back to 94 So I have to live without a trunk key.
