HLCD/ waveguides
I have a 93 GLE and was thinking about using waveguides for my front stage. Anyone have any experience w/ these. I think I'll want to put a good, strong midbass in the door as well. What is my best bang for the buck?

Which wave guides were you planning on using? I've looked into putting some Image Dynamics full-sized horns into my 94 gxe, but there was now way I could make them fit without cutting into the firewall. If you use their minihorns, which are a little shallower, you should be able to fit them in. As far as midbass goes, I put a pair of 8" midbass drivers in my doors on a custom baffle. I took out the old plastic baffle that the original 4x6 was mounted on and traced out a template onto a thin piece of mdf, then cut the speaker hole. After that, I added another mdf ring on top of that to build up the height a little bit. By building it up this high, I was able to retain full use of my windows while still mounting an 8" driver in the door.
I used in Image Dynamics IDQ8, but if you want something with a shallower mounting depth, you might want to take a look at the Illusion Audio ND-8. It's a little costlier, but its mounting depth is around 2.5"
Also, if you go with an 8 in the door, I highly suggest you seal and dampen it very well. I used about 80 square feet of this no-name brand version of Dynamat Extreme. (2 layers over entire outer door skin, 2 more on inner door skin, 1 on back of door panel, with about 3-5 more directly behind each speaker...all in all about 20lbs. of vibration dampener) It works just as well for a fraction of the cost. Before I put it in, my door rattling was almost as loud as the speaker, but now the rattling is non-existent. In fact, I've been able to cut down the road noise in my car far enough that my car running at 85-90 mph sounds like my friend's '97 SE running at 55
