Aloha one and all:
Short-time reader, first time writer... That's right a

I have been reading through the many great 'clutch' FAQs, but have not located a solution to my dead clutch problem.
History: (1) replaced pressure plate & disk in July - felt like brand new clutch but squeaks & slight spongy feeling remained, (2) stiffness returned in Aug - cleaned master & slave cylinders, added new DOT 3, bled system, but not confident in bleed, (3) felt okay for a while, but still a lot of pressure req'd - re-bled system but still not a good bleed, (4) clutch went out at end of Aug - replaced pistons, springs, covers, etc. for master & slave cyl & re-bled, but air remained & clutch still inop, (5) replaced slave cyl, put teflon on bleed screw, & re-bled, but air remained & clutch still inop.
Notes: I have not noticed any leaks except in slave cyl cover prior to changing the hardware. Initially I had someone help bleed the clutch, but I recently got a pump since I have been bleeding so often. On average, I have been bleeding from 6 to 8 oz of fluid (~30 min), which seems excessive for such a short line. I estimate that it should only take about 4 oz (& ~15 min) at the most to fill the system & bleed all the air out. Does this sound right?

I am planning to replace the hose as the next, least expensive attempted fix before the master, but am interest in any suggestions/solutions any of you might have.

Sorry for the long story. Mahalo for your feedback!

My guess is that your master or slave cylinder are still faulty. Probably the slave, since you said it was still leaking some. It seems like you are competent at mechanical work, but it might be wise to take it to a shop and at least have them look at it.

Thanks for the replies & insight - I do most of the typical stuff on my own & get help from a guy who works for the truck center maint at my office for the tougher jobs. I did find fluid in the slave when I first changed the hardware, but not since replacing the whole cylinder. Sounds like I will probably have to change out both the master & hose (~$80 for parts out here on the islands). I'll let you know if I figure out which is actually the culprit.

Check to see if you have a second bleeder screw located in a junction block on the driver's side strut tower. If so, you will have to bleed this one also. I believe you have to do this one before the one on the slave, but I'm not 100% sure. Good luck!
