Exhaust and Catalyc Converter

So i went to my local midas because I think i found my problem to my ldle problem.

I changed my spark plugs / wires (Bosch wires liftime for 52$ and Plat 2's for 3$ @ Piece) and it still didnt stop the idle problem. As I was stepping on my gas, i heard little popping noises from my exhaust, and when I press on the gas and release it, as the rpms come down, there is little popping noise, not loud, just (pop...pop pop.... pop) and u can feel it. So Midas told me i still had the original stock muffler on there. Here is what he showed me.

before the Cat, the temp is around 320 to 345, after the cat, the temp jumps to 500 to 560, but i always thought it should be hotter after the cat because thats what burns all the **** right? but he told me my cat was showing signs of pluggage and he could replace it with stock parts/cat and all for 450$. I told him i was looking at getting a cat back system for 500$ to 600$ off of one of these web sites that i cant remeber and i want him to put it on with the new cat, he said 250$ to do that.

Should i just buy the catalyc and the cat back system and just try and do it myself? what do you guys think.

$250 to install a cat-back is a rip-off. At most, it should cost half that. As for buying the parts, you can get a hi-flow cat, cat-back pipe and muffler from Warpspeed performance for $400 shipped (approximately). This will probably be of higher quality than a midas setup, and be more free-flowing too.
