Quick summary: A VG30E with intake and timing increase will outrun a est. 1994 XLE V6 Camry from 75 mph on...

Wow! I was traveling to Indianapolis on the interstate late Friday night (Saturday morning 2:30 a.m.) I was moving along quite fast at around 85 mph when I saw this white Toyota Carmry coming up on me with driving lights. It was probably a 93-94, as it had the lense that extended all the way across the rear. He flew by me and I noticed he had one of those huge wings on the back, lowered, and chrome wheels. It actually looked nice EXCEPT for the wing. So, I decided to get up to speed and see how fast he was going 100, 105, 110- finally I was gaining on him at 115. I followed behind him for awhile. He backed down to 95 mph and I decided that I'd pass him. Keeping the car in 3rd gear (OD off), I went around him pretty good. Then folks, the race was on. Now these Camrys have 185 hp DOHC V6, so I thought he might get the best of me since my intake and timing advancement wouldn't equal 185, but what the heck right? My car only has 163,000 miles. He pulls up to me and is dead even with me at 95 mph, I'm still in 3rd. I hold it steady and nudge forward a little and then back. He floored it and started moving ahead on me coming off the throttle, but then I got on it immediately. Gentleman, I will say I had no problem walking away from him from 95 mph to 120 mph. I had him by 2-3 car lengths. I tapped my brake lights, that race was over. I will say on a nice cool night, the K&N intake just loves sucking in the cool air. The car felt so strong in climbing at those speeds. Keep in mind peak torque for us is at 3200 rpms if I remember correctly. In third gear that's right where you are at 100 mph. So after hitting the brakes, he blew by me and then slowed down. Again, I came even with him, but he slowed down more, as did I. I could tell he wanted a run from a lower speed. 75 mph was the magic number this time. Pausing at 75, it was my turn to get the jump on him, I got on it, and he immediately did thereafter. Again, I walked away from him up to about 115, then backed it off, tapping my brakes after being a comfortable distance away. He then passed at full speed. Finally, for the final round of the night, I approached him going at a steady speed and was going to pass, he then got on it hard, at the time I was 5 or 6 car lenghts back. I, in turn, did the same. The needle steadily climed, holding OD off, I was slowly catching up narrowing the distance. 85 mph 5 car lenghths, 100 mph 3 car lenghths, 115 mph 1 car length. At this point the VG is winding good and the intake is just screaming. I got the nose of my car up to his right passenger door and was gaining. At this point I was practically in the redline at 123 mph and thought it best to let my tranny go into OD. I flipped the button and for the next 30 seconds was able to get dead even with him, both of us accelerating. I hit 130mph and we were dead even like that for a good 2 minutes! Neither the Max nor the Camry would not go any faster. There is no speed limiter, this was pure drag limitation. Finally, I hit the brakes and drew way back down to like 75 and let him go ahead. So I won round 1 and round 2, but tied round 3.

Even though it was 3 a.m. and there weren't any cars on the Interstate, I don't think I'll go to those extremes again, and I certainly don't encourage anyone to behave in that manner.
