Cupholder idea

Someone has probably tried this already but...I was thinking of making cupholders out of the little storage area in the compartment between the two front seats, the one with the lid on it. Put two holes in there, then when I'm not using it I could just close the lid. Of course I'd probably have to put something under the thing. Anyway, it's just a little project I was thinking about doing.

My 92 Stanza has a similar solution to what you are saying. The center console is only about 3" deep, and has little depressions in the bottom. When you raise the lid, a wire frame drops down that looks like an '8". That's supposed to hold your drinks...works, but very inconvenient since it is actually a little behind you and can't be easily reached while driving.. not the best solution.

Have you ever seen pictures of the VE cup holders? (it might not be just VE, probably just a 92-94 thing). It might just be easier for you to find a set of those. They only really hold one drink though, and you might not want to do very agressive driving while using it, but its better than nothing.

either way good luck with the project and I hope you post pics when your done.

VE cupholders???? Wait a minute, I feel shafted. I've fot a VE and don't have a single thing that even resembles a cupholder. Any pics of these so called "VE cupholders". I have seen some cupholders on a 3rd gen that fit under the cass/cd player on a non bose unit. But from what I understand they don't work well.

Both of my single DIN Bose VE's have had cupholders in the 2nd (bottom) DIN. I know other Bose VE's have them aswell. hmmm, I forget how all the options work

The single din that is being referred to is like an insert tray where the storage door is. It pulls out and has 2 round openings for drinks. Like MrGone says, don't turn the corner too hard...
From what I understand, they are pretty rare- every once in a while you'll see one on ebay. Last time I saw one, the guy wanted like 40 bucks for it though..

I have what you could call a cupholder in mine. It is a little slide out thing with holes in it (like for a can of pop). It doesn't work very well, though. My previous 92 SE had one, too. I have never used them, but a previous owner did. There are coffee stains inside my current one.

I like my new rig, an Infiniti QX4. There are three cupholders in the front and two in the back, with the driver one big enough to hold a large pop from Jack in the Box!

They work well and it wasn't too hard to make.

open up your glove box. and look at the door, it has 2 round cut outs, which are only like 2 mm deep. very good for driving on a high way straight. but i had a huge 32 oz mc donalds cup riding on it. took a left turn forgeting about it. and before i knew it i had 32 oz on my carpet. the cup did a full flip in the air, smacked the passenger side door and emptied on the floor. never again did i put even a closed top drink on that "cup holder"

This is what I'm talking about. But I cut into the actual bottom part and made one "holder" already. It's only one hole so I may just do what you
did. But this is exactly what I'm doing, it's really sturdy and it finally gives me a place to put my drink somewhere.

You actually attempted to use those. Man you've got *****. I saw those when I was looking over the car before I bought it. And had to explain to the gentleman selling the car why I was doubled over laughing.
