Billet Grill

A billet grill gets its name from being made from a solid (usually aluminum) block called a billet. To make it yourself you would first have to go to school to become a machinist! You would then have to buy a $5K+ milling machine and everything to go with it. I work in tech support for an industrial supply distributor and I talk to machinists all day. Trust me, you're not making a "billet" grill at home on your workbench. I'm sure this isn't the answer you were looking for, but I saw no one responded. Sorry

Thanks for the reply... See I wasn't exactly talking about makeing it like you describe I was asking if any one know's of a company that already makes solid aluminum tubbing that I could buy the tubbing from and creat a grill from that. My dad sayed he probably could help me out though, so I'm still looking around..

I see where you could of got the idea from my post though that I was thinking about makeing it that way because I didn't really explain it very well....

Thanks again for posting though......

You know why no one answered.....

cause this question is asked almost every week....the search feature at the top of the page would've helped you out too.........anyways heres how you can do the grille, its really easy, well kinda..........

1. get Billet grille for a chevy/GMC/Ford truck(the bigger models so you have plenty material to work with!) @ Jcwhitney.com for about $60(if you need an exact part number let me know, I don't have it off hand..)
2. take off your stock grille
3.remove the "stock grille inserts" inside the grille "housing"
3. place the new billet grille into the newly redone stock grille "housing"( you might have to cut the billet grille a little to make it fit, thats the hard part, cutting it right to fit!)
4.secure the billet insert into the grille "housing" and put the SOB back on the car and you should be done

it may sounds easy but I couldn't tell you cause I never did it! good luck!

To tell you the truth.......

you shouldn't have to go with a metal shop or anything, I would think a good circular saw or hack saw would cut through the "billet" really well and you could fit it really easy, it seems like an easy do it yourself job, many guys on here have done the "gutter guard" grille wihich is probably easier to cut and bend, but I couldn't really see the billet as being any harder....I might give it a try or do the gutter guard grille myself this spring and see how it works out!

heres a pic of one you can use:

I believe the one you picked out is the same one da max was talking about when he said "gutter guard" if your going to buy that grill i think you could save about 70$ going to home depot for that specific material, just my 2
