Excess wax.....
Excess wax.....
I am heading down to the meet in Oregon this week and I want my car to be clean but I have this excess wax from my last wax job that won't come off !!!! It's under the window seal of the drivers side front and rear window. How do I get this stuff off??!!??
I think the wax has stained the window trim area. I know some waxes do that (Eagle 1 & Zymol, to name a few) while some don't (Meg's #26, which is what I use & recommend).
I have tried Mother's Back to Black with mild success. You really have to layer it on though (and it won't last).
Sorry man I think that you're stuck with the wax stains. Next time you wax, you might want to cover the plastic trim pieces with masking tape before you start applying any wax.

oh if its the actual black plastic try some rubber/ vinyl protectant like meguiars vinyl / rubber protectant, on most cars it will take it out and be Almost black again. Just apply and rub back and fourth a few times to get it in there. it works for me all the time
Mine has the staining as well. Over the summer I took a rag and a dot of armor all and rubbed the trim lines. They turned back to the proper color. I've since waxed again so they're back now.
I'll be sure to laugh at your trim this weekend.

Try bug and tar remover or mineral spirits. Putting B2B or other dressings on it will only cover it up, but if nothing works then this is okay for a temporary fix. Some will suggest peanut butter or some kind of vegetable oil, but it's basically the same idea as I mentioned.
Wax staining will be worse if your trim is cracked and weathered and not smooth anymore. I have this problem and was thinking of polishing or sanding them, but never got to it this year.
Masking or applying a protectant before waxing will help in the future.
Also, don't forget.... we have a Detailing section now.

i have/had the exact same problem but mine are faded bad as well as me getting some wax on it. I tried back to black before and it actually made it worse, so after each wash i hit it with armor all/tire wet and that was a good temporary fix until it eventually dries off. So i just went all out and repainted my trim pieces
painted vs unpainted
painted vs unpainted
I wish I could have gotten those off my old car. They didnt have any signs of aging.
Good thread though, those trim pieces on mine arent in the best of shape. I say give my car a year and it will be better than new, but then again by then, it will be worth squat

Also, was that spray paint?
