'89 5 Spd Questions

The trans in my '89 SE finally bit it (its stuck in 2nd gear). I changed the trans fluid today and it was full of shavings.

The car is in great shape and I hate to part it out but can't afford to drop $1500 on a trans job right now. So, I have a couple of questions:

1. Does anyone know how many hours are typically charged to R&R a manual trans in this car?

2. What other cars use this same transmission? I've heard a Stanza. Is this true?

3. What year maxima transmissions would be a bolt-in job?

4. Are there any gotchas to keep in mind as I'm looking for a trans for this car?

5. Anyone have a good trans (preferably in Texas) to fit this car?

Thanks for your help!

i'm pretty sure stanzas (91-92) have the same trannies, but i've never actually compared them side by side.

3. any ony from a SOHC
4. Yeah, catch the car as soon as it comes into the yard, before they have a chance to change fluids etc.
4b. Check the fluid color
4c. drop the pan and check for shavings. (you knew that already)
4d. try to find someone who is parting out a max that is moveable to check the shifting.
4e. Find a yard that offers a warranty on the trans that includes LABOR

The auto trannys for 90-92 Stanza are exactly the same, (for the VG) so I would ASSUME the manuals are as well. Not sure about the Altima, seems like I read somewhere the bolt pattern is not the same.
