but what if I want to drive? since when are we not allowed to drive? It should be "Don't drink then drive", because I'm not going to drink, but I sure want to drive.

The word "And" pairs two things together, in this case drinking and driving. In order to seperate them into their own categories, another "don't" is required to be added. For example: "Don't drink and don't drive". But when you say "Don't drink and drive" it is obvious that "drink" and "drive" are paired together into one meaning don't do those 2 things together. Another way to seperate them into two different categories is to use the word "or". For example: "Don't drink or drive". I hope you learned something from todays lesson.
