Need opinion before I spend money

My engine is shot. I have a decision betweena complete JDM engine with 55,000 miles on it or a reconditioned long block. Both are the same price with shipping. Has anyone had any experience with the JDM engines for this car?

what does "reconditioned" mean?
I'd probably go that route if it offers a warranty.

Reconditioned usually means use as many of the old parts as possible while doing little more than clean up used parts and put them in inly when absolutely neccessary.
Warranty is only useful when it's parts and labor

Recon pretty much means rebuilt

I get the same warranty on the JDM. The only difference is with the JDM engine, I won't have to use my accessories with 155000 miles on them like the injectors, coils, sensors, etc..... Plus the JDM engines have higher compression, a longer stroke on the crank, and a little more power.

Who told you that? that's a buncha crap. They're the same parts.

If you get the same warranty as the other one, I'd go with the JDM ones though.. as you said, you get all the other accessories on it like the coils and such.

Please cite your source for JDM's having higher compression, longer strokes and more power?

I'm very interested about the stroke part, I just wish it were true, because then I might have a stroker motor

Then I wouldn't buy from them.
Any time you change the bore or stroke of a motor it changes the displacement and by extension the motors classification

My dad offered to buy parts for the mustang if I did Labor, I instantly thought 347ci, but then I became depressed because its still has the damn blue oval plague.

Brian, I reread my post, and I mean't if it were true that the JDM's had a larger stroke (which they dont) then I would snag a JDM crank and play. Then I would gripe about how the pistons can only come out from the top of the motor and not the bottom and call you and say I need a stupid gasket set.

find out more info on the Reconditioned long block... some places dont like to replace bearings and think they can get away with just boring or honing the cylinders and putting in new rings and sometimes new pistons and call it good.

Also you might just want to look into a junk yard motor

VE or VG btw?

Did someone say beer?

sure, I'll check 'em out.. for a case. (If you've never driven in Houston, then you don't understand.) It's completely on the other side of Houston.. about 2 hrs round-trip, not to mention dealing with the goobers.

The "goobers?" Sounds like an interesting drive...

:song from "Deliverance" playing in the background:

My old roommate went to UH and he said Houston is so spread out it's like four or five towns all sprawled together. Just don't drink the entire case on the trip back.

Yeah, exactly.... I drove to JohnVDP's house a couple months ago and it took me over 1.5 hrs to get there.. and he's still fairly close compared to other members.. I've had some drives over 2 hours to get across town at/above the speed limit!

i hate driving in houston, there are wholes bigger than my house in the road, and driving on the 45 59 interchange is like riding a rollercoaster. and it is soo confusing coz they have soooo many districts and little suburbs that are like individual cities. damnit!!!!!!!.

matt i will pay you in beer to work on my car and ill halp finish a case aswell, no problems

I steer clear of Houston. Last time I went, had to pull a wrecked maxi on a flatbed through traffic

You can't talk too much about traffic when you live in Conroe.. WTF is the problem there?!
took me over two hours to get through the traffic backed up on the way into Conroe last week! WTF?!
finally i just pulled off and took the loop around town to 75 until I was far enough out of town the traffic was gone.

If you're talking about traffic, then it should be 'what The Woodlands still is'. Takes me 15 minutes just to make it from VOCC/VOPC area out to 45. Then another 45 minutes to make it to BW8 / 290. And don't even try to drive around The Woodlands during the day - nothing but soccer moms in Excursions and Suburbans...

Mmmm glad I live in Pearland.
more hicks and rednecks than anything down here.. plus we dont' have to deal with the flooding... but the drawback is that it's a drive from everything.
I'll trade that short drive anyday than having to sit in traffic 20 minutes just to get to the grocery store.

yeah the woodlands suks. but then again it aint nuthin compared to houston at rush hour. id like to see if metro makes any difference, not like it ever will. they could use the billions of dollars and build one big freeway over the whole city, or maybe a big tunnel. that would make a big difference
