if its a problem with the compressor the heater should be unaffected. it runs off of the heated coolant.

On the other hand if it's a plugged evaporator core.
It will affect the heat.
Time will tell

most likely it has a freon leak. and your kinda screwed cause it needs r12 witch is no longer produced. but i think theres a replacement. i lucked out i have 134a. however my wifes old sunbird took r12 and i loaded it with 134a and it works - and has been for a few summers now. howeve rit still may blow up. but for the past few summers its been nice and cold. now that im selling it (89 sunbird 80K 2.0 4cyl 2 door white LE model greay cloth interior manual windows manual locks, no sunroof, but all in all a great run around car. im askin 1200 so ask around for me guys i need the money to get my max back ive replace almost everything on that car from the timing belt to the O2 sensor to the battery (3 months old) tune up 6 months ago. oil changed every 3000-3500 miles. car has 80kk on it and motor has about 10k on it. the first motor blew up so i grabbed a junkyard one and put it in a few years ago when i had access to the tools and lifts....

Good luck on the car. Just be sure to go through a regular round of maintenance when you get the car (oil change, air filter, coolant check, trans fluid check (or flush), new plugs (unless they were just replaced)). Also check the ECU to see if it is throwing any codes due to malfunctioning sensors.

Other than that, congrats on the new car!
