Winter Accident(s)
Hello to all my fellow .ORG members! It is winter now, and I figured I'd dedicate a thread to all the winter Maxima accidents. As sad as they are, they need to be public! Now I havn't had any accidents yet, and let's hope for the best!
Today, I almost slid into a Dodge Durango, that wouldn't have been cool...not at all!
Not to mention the other day a cop car almost hit me!
Lets see what you've got!

Had to drive through about four inches of snow to drop off my son at grandma's house today and a moron in a big van was sideways in the road. Had I been going faster, I might have hit him.
Luckily I have studded snow tires all around, so the Max is "dashing through the snow."

I saw an intrepid yesterday that hit black ice, it hit a steel pole, and the pole was driven 3/4's of the way through the car and the engine was throw 10 meters from the car. I realize it wasn't a maxima in the accident, but it's all I think about now when people talk about accidents, that's the worse i've ever seen a car in person.

Close calls in the winter? going up to the pass and tossing the max around like a bowling ball.

Last winter on my way to college I make it almost all the way to my college with no problems in the snow(it was my first time driving in snow I was like weee ). Ok so I get into the turning lane to turn into the college campus and start slowing down. I was going real slow to begin with but this turning lane was ridiculously slippery, must've been iced up or something. So alas I lock the brakes and slide right into the island ahead. Ok no problem, could've been worse I could've hit the sign a few inches to the left of me or something. I just have to back up a few feet. So I check my mirror before backing up and I see a car heading straight towards me, only he's not driving towards me, he is sliding towards me ever so slowly. I'm there like "oh sh*t..." and 1 second later he hits into my back bumper. So I try to get out of my car and I can't because the seatbelt is locked. Took me a sec to figure out that you gotta unbuckle it
So we talked, he was a nice guy, offered to pay for any damages, left me his phone #, etc... We agreed not to get insurance involved. He was against my rear bumper so I didn't know what damage was done to my car, but his was a lot worse off. His hood was bent up, front bumper probably dented in a bit, I think maybe a cracked headlight. I think it was some kind of Acura. I can't remember.
Ok so all was well and done and I pull into the college, get out of my car and check the damage. Walk around to the back and I see nothing except a little bit of paint chipped off on the right side of the bumper, and some of his paint on my bumper. Upon closer inspection I notice my bumper is ever so slightly pushed in. At first I thought it was made like that, because it curves inward right above the license plate and looks to be perfectly centered curve. No biggy, you can't even tell unless you go right up to it and look at it on an angle.
So it was a fender bender for me, and a small wreck for him The worst of my damages is that small paint chip, which is pretty deep. I see yellow underneath it. If only I knew how to sand and fill it and repaint and crap.

My winter accident wasnt due to weather it was due to some ******* in an suv or pick-up... I took my mom's car (2002 VW passat) [it's a good thing I didnt take my max] to the mall and when I came out the drivers side rear quater was all crunched in above the wheel and the bumper was falling off... The guy(or girl) didn't leave anything like a number or address, just a hit and run... So I duct-taped the bumper back on(got to love the duct-tape) and drove home.. got it appraised.. $1200 fix.. my maxima probably would have been declared totaled if it had been hit like that...

just drive slow and slow down early....no point in rushing if you never make there....on a side note, having a v8 camaro sucks.... in the snow....having a maxima that can't do true donuts also sucks..i gotta make a few vids of my attempts this year.

I had a fight with a snow bank while trying to get out of a city street parking space....and the snow bank won. Now my front bumper and foglight are cracked. At least I know my VLSD works like a charm.
Oh the joys of living in New England.

I haven't had any accidents this winter. But last friday when the Great Blizzard of 2003 hit I was at school up in New Rochelle and up their its nothing but hills, all day long you go up and down on these huge hills. I must have seen like ten accidents at lights where people try to stop and slide down the hill. I saw this one where a Integra hit a BMW 745 and the cops came to write the report and slammed into the integra, then a school bus slide into the cop car. Took me 3hrs to get home and on a nice day only takes me 30mins with a radar detector.

All I can say is that I haven't had any accidents in my max this winter but have had a few close calls since I have owned it. I have seen alot of crazy stuff in my 13+ years as a firefighter/emt though. My wife did drive her brand new 2k4 Hyundai Santa Fe off the road into a ditch last week. Luckly she and the vehicle were fine no damage.

my friend had 5 people into an 1988 honda hatchback<--Stupid move. As they were driving he popped a rear tire and slid into a snow bank. And then he continued to slid until he ran into a pole. Luckily the marijuana acted as a pain killer. No one was seriously. I am soo glad I wasn't in his car. Besides I wouldn't be in a Hatchback with 4 other peoples. We would outweight the car!!

A few days ago I had my first collision with my Max. It was snowing hard so I was not driving fast. I hit a patch of black ice approaching a curve, the car went off the road and stopped against a tree. Surprisingly the damage was minor. The front bumper was pushed in ever so slightly and the hood was lighty bumped in the front. (Man 3rd gens are bulletproof :-) ) . The thing that upset me the most is that with further inspection, if I had been driving like I usualyy do (drifting), i would avoided the accident. BTW, can anyone direct me to where i can find a good carbon fiber hood for my GXE?

lophix, you notice why texas has its benefits, no snow, i pulled a pretty nice 2/3rd donut in a parking lot. whenever i was in wisconsin a few years ago, i seen the best wrecks, there was a dude who had gone down a hill onto a golf course. he ended up backwards in a bunker, i also seen a guy who had drove into a pool.

I guess it serves me right for making this damn thread. I was pulling into a parking lot, caught some ice, and slammed into this huge curb. Ended up with abotu a 2" bulge on my right front tire, and some underbody damage on the right side. When I get in the car, somehow it messed up my front left speaker! It keeps twitching out, only at high volumes, though. Sigh, my poor Max!

Well, took it to sears today, putting 2 new snow tires on the front. Luckily I ruined the tire on my mismatched wheel, so they're mounting the rim I have that matches the other wheels, still havn't looked at my speaker yet, wish me luck! PS Ordered my rims today!

It was a non winter accident I was in with an '89 Dynasty moving 25 mph, he pulled out infront of me, I hit his left front fender and smashed it in pretty good..left a SMALL scratch on the front bumper of the Max..
Wish my truck was operable..I'd drive it instead..drive it right to an open parking lot and play with my bald tires on a 2wd truck..
P.S.- my 92 GXE auto will do reverse donuts purdy easy in 6 inches of snow..
