HID kits...your impression

There was a GD for 210 shipped a while ago. I don't like the stock crappy light output and wanted to upgrade, but I didn't want to spend all that time again installing e36's.

So to those who have HID kits, is the price a good deal (seems like it) and how satisfied are you? When the bulbs burn out, how expensive are they to replace?

Those with upgraded harness and bulbs, is the output much better than stock?

Thanks for the comments!

the old saying you pay for what you get.

if you want real hids get one from freddy, aka 97gles on the org. and the price about 375+- but you get quality and service. pm him and tell him that izzy sent you..

HID is definitely an upgrade. But I would be a cautious about purchasing a $210.00 kit. I paid for my kit $420.00 its called HID plus by SPW industries it uses a hella ballast and the kit runs with a relay and fuse. I've had it for about a year and no problems whatsoever. I have pictures of my HIDs on my cardomain on page 7 maxima.cardomain.com/id/dsta92se

IIRC, the HID kit I've seen was the same as D-sta's

I fell in love with them, so I dusted off my piggy bank. I havent put anything in it yet, but I think I have $0.55 downstairs, so I think I'll start saving today.

Oh yeah, with HID's, if you've never seen them before, heres the best way I can describe it...

say your headlights are aimed kind of far out (some people aim them to the ground right infront of their car). On a wet well lit street I cant see my headlights on the street. Now take the brightest halogen lights you've seen in the dark on a dry road, and thats what you have on a well lit wet road with HID's

HID's on a dry road is like heaven

Well, the kit is German-made, and a lot of the guys from the Org seemed to be taken by the deal. Here's the website:

How much are the bulbs to replace if they burn out, and where in the bay do you mount them?

I can see 15-20 feet at night if I'm lucky, and in the rain, it's horrible.

I've seen hid kits inside crappy halogen reflectors. I'm sure it's great for him but I feel like strangling them every time I have to pass one going the other way. It's like they have their high beams on right at you.

Don't hate, participate Jeff. Funny thing you mentioned that because yesterday I was coming back from the movies at night and like 2 or 3 cars moved out of my way and I wasn't driving fast or anything and once I passed them they got behind me and gave me the brights.

This ain't about hating. This is about some **** high beaming my **** from oncoming traffic or highbeaming from behind. It's dangerous.

I know the 3-gen lights are bad. They are probably one of the worst reflectors out there. But what makes then bad for halogens, makes then 4x as bad for HIDs.

I'm not some hid reflector **** but some of this hid kit stuff is out of hand. You don't know why these guys are highbeaming you??

I have the bmw lights but not the elipsoid versions. So maybe I'll go 65w/85w or something and upgrade my harness. I might even go hids in those but that's gonna be glare city in those too.

I have the same kit as Diego and its great, I had a problem with the ballast a few months ago, the guy we bought the kit from said he never had that happen before so he sent me a new ballast right away. since then I havent had any problems and I learned what cause the ballast problem and it was partially my fault.

Jeff I was just joking about the hating thing. Yes I completely agree that the headlight housing is horrible but I can't afford and my personal opinion is that I don't like the BMW conversion, it looks nice but I wouldn't do it.
