I was thinking more along the lines of Recaro or similar. I need something real comfortable for hwy cruising.

Well, IMHO, it's going to come down to mounting them. Matt (matt93se) had some seats in his car, but had to change the brackets to get them to fit. Which is probably what you'll have to do, regardless of if they're Corbeau, Recaro, or whatever.

Most of the aftermarket seats you can buy will have brackets made for them that either bolt right into the car or have the slider part that you make brackets to bolt into the car on them, and you're done.

Expect to spend $1200 absolute minimum to get a set of seats with brackets and harnesses. the seats themselves run $300-1000 each, then harnesses are about $75 each and brackets are another $75 each. Inflatable lumbar support is another $50 or so per seat- which I highly recommend at least for the driver's side.

you don't need to buy harnesses for them as you can use your factory belts, but they make it MUCH better when you're zipping around an auto X or road course

err, sorry, I looked them up awhile back and you used to be able to buy actual seats from them..I heard about them from somones homepage, and I checked it out cause I liked their two-tone seats they had customized..I should have looked at their page again before I mentioned that..

here's the average Recaro seat: starts at $600 per seat, plus brackets, plus harnesses, plus shipping..

Now, if you want to go to the Ergomed series, then prices start at about $800 per seat for one that doesn't look like it came out of the disco age.


here's the average Corbeau seat: Prices starts at $320 each for the top one, and 399 each for the bottom one.




Now, if you want to go to a fixed mount, non-reclining race shell, Recaro jumps quite a bit in price, for the same thing...
Recaro: (starts at about $600 and goes to $3000+ PER SEAT, plus brackets and harnesses and shipping)


Corbeau: This is one of their cheapo ones, but prices start at $220 per seat (plus brackets, harnesses, shipping)



Now.. will you please explain to me the functional difference in these two brands-- especially in the side bolster category.. Explain the difference in form and function between both large and small bolsters, and then use the illustrations above to clarify your point.

I've got a set of Corbeau's in my Stang... they're fairly comfortable, and I love the bolsters, but the lower back area kind of pushes out - which I would imagine makes long trips (i.e. more than 3 hrs) a little difficult. But for every day driving they're not too bad at all...as long as you're not a wide guy...

I'm pretty decent size (5'10", ~200lb), and I've got no problems with my Corbeaus. I constantly make 8+ hr drives home to see family and work, and I would MUCH rather sit in my Corbeaus for 8 hours than my factory seats. I used to have to stop and stretch and walk around every hour or so with the factory ones, but with the corbeaus, I only have to stop for gas and nature breaks.

Am I crazy thinking about fixed back seats in my max? I was looking at the Corbeau FX1. Fiberglass shell. You seem to get more for the money with fixed back racing seats than recling ones.

I've done a drive from Houston to Tulsa-about 550 mile each way-- in a barely (far from!) street legal Z32.. It had 5 pt harnesses and Sparco fixed position seats.. I was actually surprised how comfy they were on the long drive, even though you couldn't change the position... they had forward/back sliders, but that's it.

I like my reclining corbeaus better, as I can have a moce casual (i.e. pimpin'!!) position while driving on the street, then I can jack it up for track days when I need to be closer to the wheel. not as simple on a non-reclining seat.


As for the wife, she hates them... but it's because of the bumpy ride and the seat isn't designed to fit her. (I bought them to fit me, not the passenger.)
Everyone else that's been in the car absolutely loves the seats- even my grumpy 57yr old dad!
