89 and 90 rear speaker installation

Has anyone with an 89 or 90 max removed the rear seats just to replace the rear speakers. If so, how hard was it?

why do you need to remove the rear seat?

its just 4 bolts, accessible from the trunk.

True but on craig brace's web page it says that you might have to take off the rear deck. I looked at the speakers earlier and I had screws but no bolts. So I now have to take the stock grill off to replace it. It shouldn't be that hard to do. I saw an earlier post about removing it so I will just follow how to remove it. That is if I can find it.

mine required the back seat be removed, the rear deck be lifted, the screws taken out from the top of the speaker, and then the speakers could be lifted out..only in bose equipped cars could you take them down from the trunk..

taking out the rear seat is easy..for the bottom, there are 2 little clips that hold it down..you just lift up on it and it pops up, then you tilt the seat up and slide it out...for the back, you have to unscrew 1 screw on each bottom corner, then 2 from behind the armrest (they're behind little caps, just pry those up with a screwdriver and then remove the screws)

You'll need either a 10mm socket or a #3 phillips screwdriver or both, and a #2 phillips offset screwdriver

If the bottom wont pop up, I've heard of some having some screws around the edge..if there are none, than stick a prybar under each end of the seat and gently pry up..

In order to remove the grill do you have to still remove the rear deck? When I looked under the deck from my trunk all I saw was the speakers, wire connectors, and four bolts. I figured that why can't I just pop the grill off and lift the speaker instead of taking the rear seat out. I am using the stock wiring an I am getting wire connectors off of crutchfield. So do you have to remove the entire rear deck just to move two speakers?

If you have Bose, You cannot get the speakers out of the top. They are 6x9's and the whole in the rear deck is a 6.5 round. You will have to unbolt them. In fact, I don't think you need to do anything from the top in that case.

If you have non-Blose, the speakers are dropped in from the top and screwed down. You will need to take the rear seat out and put the deck. There are press clips holding it in, you can see them from the trunk. Mine were green and I push them up easily.

the speaker GRILLS are held to the rear deck with screws, but you have to lift it up to get to them..I wouldn't reccomend changing grilles in the back unless you have tinted windows that can't be seen through..more likely for somone to notice your stereo if you have grilles that don't look stock..

Why are you using factory wiring? you'll still have your factory amp in the works if you dont bypass it with non bose, and you can't just not hook up its power wire, because you'll get no sound out of the back speakers..its really easy to run wires to the back..I mean REALLY easy..
