some help here pleeze

Well this weeked i bought timing kit, water pump, and all the belts. I went to my dads shop and the main tec didnt even want to take a second look and told me that he could not do it! so really how hard is doing this i know that it would take 6 hours or so but pepboys wanted 425.00 labor ? is it bossible to get a chilons and a few friends to do it?

as long as your osmewhat familer with engines of course you could do it with a chiltons just take your time and read the instructions

does anybody know if it is hard to line up the crankshaft so that the timing is right or should i get a timing gun would that make a difference

the pulley on the crank shaft? it has a key on it so you can't mess that up at all. if you have good car skills its pretty easy to do. make sure you get the belt to the proper tension though. too loos and you could skip teeth and too tight and it will whine and stretch.

hey went and got my self a chiltons mag and its like the best thing that a man could do to him self is the whole thing about how many teeth are on the belt right? is there any other way to tell if i got the timing right?

the only way IMHO to be sure the timing is correct is to make sure all the timing marks line up as described in the FSM.
But be careful, a couple teeth off and you're talkin' crash bend cha-ching!

I say do it yourself
Might want to use a FSM though, but still it isn't that hard to do.
If I had a VG I'd do it myself.

Ummmm, step #1 is to line up all the markks and have the engine at TDC before you ever take the old belt off. then it's easy to make sure you get it back on correctly. you don't have to worry about having one cam one rotation out or something.

dont i know that for a fact - lesson learned : turn motor by hand FIRST !!!!!
