Washer Fluid Reservoir Leaking
Washer Fluid Reservoir Leaking
I have a '91 Maxima SE and the washer fluid reservoir wil not hold fluid. I pour it in at the top and it comes out at my feet. The reservoir is pretty inaccessible from the top - I cannot even see if it is a hose problem at the bottom, or some split plastic on the reservoir.
Anyone ever have to do work on it? I am trying to figure out if access is better by removing the fender (I counted like 6 bolts) or only from underneath (not preferred because of alot of snow and ice here now.) Underneath seems to be alot of trim pieces with plastic snaps which never seem to go back right.

Not sure - couldn't get at it yet - though mine loses fluid at a much lower point - it doesn't even hold enough for one squirt - which makes me think it could be just a hose problem, but even that is inaccessible
I had my fender off due to an accident, and the bottle was broken. The filler tube is removeable from the top, but the tank definately requires removeal of the fender. They are bolts to the bumper and the body under the car and the ones along the hood. Remove the headlight and side marker light and their are bolts inside as well.
Its not as bad as you would think.

I'm not sure of the location of the pump/resovior on the gxe, but its also behind the fender on the se.
So mine was also leaking. to get at the pump you just have to remove the plastic fender linning on the front half, then just bend it back. There are I think three 10mm screws holding the tank in place. I ended up replacing my pump, but it would have been easy to fix. The pump is just pressed into the resovior and there is a big rubber grommet preventing it from leaking. All I would have needed was to remove the pump from the tank (by pulling it off, not removing any little screws), clean everything well and make sure its nice and dry. then use rtv silicone to seal up the rubber grommet to both the plastic tube and the resovior.
Anyway $20 later, I have a new pump and it works great again. BTW mine only started leaking after I decided to add some 'glass plus' to the washer fluid, so thats what loosened up the seal on that rubber grommet.
