ve30 underdrive pulley - worth doing?
ve30 underdrive pulley - worth doing?
Is the horsepower increase noticeable enough to justify $100 for an underdrive crank pulley? I need to do belts and crank seal anyway and I'm getting "since I have it apart" syndrome. There is a really good write-up about it at http://www.4dsc.com/articles/drivetrain/udp/udp.shtml but I'd like to hear about the results or lack thereof. Opinions?
Yes it's worth every penny. It might be a better bang for the buck than a Ypipe. I personally shaved 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile and 1 FULL tenth in my 60 foot. You will noticably increase throttle response and low end power. The rediculous throttle response will put a smile on your face. I guarantee you've never seen your tach needle move so fast.

I'll try to get a small video for you. hehehehe
Yeah, it's definately worth it. Just like Aaron said, you'll have much better throttle response, and better acceleration. Also, the $100 price isnt that bad considering the pulley for the vg engine is around $140

UDP? lets see...insane throttle response, incredible driveability, decent install (note 4ft breaker bar and my dad kicking it to get the nut off while i held the brakes). not sure how the install is on an auto, but dont be afraid when the whole bolt comes off the pulley instead of just the nut..we thought it broke cuz it made a horrible squeak/cracking noise and the whole thing came out...man was i stupid back then(2 years ago).
but yeh, UDP is worth every penny (i actually like the steering feel a bit more now..more connected to the road).
you need to get a flywheel and decent clutch too, that helps incredibly with driveability in my opinion...
ok i'm done rambling(read: boredum).
