choice: "upgrade" from VG5spd to VE5spd or get a 5th gen?

choice: "upgrade" from VG5spd to VE5spd or get a 5th gen?

i love my VG30E SE5spd. it ain't the VE, i know, but i'm attached to her. my first maxima. love it, she's modded pretty good, looks good. i'm going to keep it and drive it anyway regardless.

now. do i park the VG and get another 3rd gen, as i am nuts over them >>> the beefier VE30DE manual?. OR. as i have grown to really lust after the 5th gen, get that one - an SE manual, anniversary edition or beyond? i know it may be like somewhat comparing apples to air-drills, but what the hey.

what would you guys do if you could fulfill this probable fantasy?



also, what is the snowman icon about?

I'd go VE 5spd unless you really want something different. The 5th gen will just depreciate

The VE is alot easier to work on than the 5th gen, my dad has a 2000 SE 5spd. It's a fun car, not as much room inside, and larger outside when compared to the 3rd gen. Also you could build up a VE or finish your VG to handle/brake better and go faster than 5th gen for less money IMHO.

Just finish doing everything to your VG, then play with the S14 heheeheh

not really bored, but at a point to mod it more or just stop. i am interested in the UDP and headers (already ordered). and this just means yet again wrenching on it.

i did notice that the interior of the 5th gen is less roomy! go figure that. i don't see the logic in that being that she's fatter bodywise.

and, yes, the S14 is virgin territory. only have done the body work/paint. it won't be a daily-driver, though. that is the thing.

just play with the 3rd gen and s14.

I know wrenching on it can get tiring after a while, I've gotten to the point where I dont like to work on my car unless someone's out in the garage with me, lol. It's just because it gets boring when I work on my car alone. lol.

Just a few days ago I was looking at getting another car to play with, but have finally decided just to keep tinkering with the maxima, soon it will be better than a brand new car, lol.

holy crap is that a baracuda? that is so boss.

yeah. i hear you. nearly everything major under the hood, including front axle area, tranny, has thus far been replaced or rebuilt. i could keep it indefinitely.

I would just keep what you have. If anything get a VE 5-speed. The only thing is, why buy a similar car that suits the same purpose? If you are going to get something else, go buy a 4x4 pickup truck, then you can play in the dirt and haul parts around, too.

if your going to get a 5th gen i would go straight to an 02-03 6spd for odvious reasons

yikes! i should've known that. i get my mopars mixed up. aaahhh. talk to me about chevy and i'll nail it. dodge, plymouth, marlin, charger, challenger, i get those confused. what is maxi-wedge, for example?
funny you mention 4x4 because that is my next thought exactly. i like the big broncos, the one they don't make anymore. not the bronco II, but the real one. like you say, i can haul around maxima and S14 parts and go "muddin." man that is so redneck. but what the hey. it's bringing my georgia upbringing back to life.

my main concern with the 3rd v the 5th gen is handling.

You want more power for the VG, turbo it. Upping to a 5-gen vs 3-gen VE, is not quite an equal choice. As any 5-gen worth to get(3.5VQ), is going to be $12,000 more than VE 5-sp

i think you have hit the real issue. i'm at a point in the maxima ownership scenario when i begin to ponder this more seriously.

right. that is sort of my thing here. the 5th gen has grown on me. they remind me of the 3rd gen for some reason.

seriously go for the VE 5spd. i have one and will NOT trade it for a newer one ive driven them all from a 90 VG to the 2003 VQ and it makes me appreciate my VE so much more

that has crossed my mind, too. i prefer 3rd and 5thgen. favorite is 3rd. the SE 5th gen is more aggressive looking than the 4th. it looks angry. 4th styling is nice, too. i need a huge ranch with a barn to keep a collection i 'spose.

what compells me to the VE choice is that i keep the 3rd gen's handling and suspension and overall great looks and charm. 3rd gen seemingly can be modded to handle above and beyond the other gens. with the extra 30hp out of the gate, the prospect is tantalizing.

oh believe...i am happy i got the ve....at least i was...UNTIL THAT DAMN *CLACK CLACK CLACK* SOUND STARTED I haven't been able to adress it yet (toyo filter, quietners, etc.) other than that it's an even more refined motor than the vg.

VTC ticking. the vg doesn't have valve timing control. it isn't refined enough.
