After I start my 93 VE automatic I get a weird sound for 1-2 seconds. I think it is a starter "squeel" but it kind of sounds more like a goose honking. On this website http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/516
it describes a situation similar to what I am experiencing and suggests disassembling the starter itself and re-greasing it on the inside. I have a starter made by Hitachi (p/n 23300 97E01) and unless I'm looking at the pics wrong, mine appears different than the one pictured. Is it likely the same problem?, and if so should I take off the two bolts, pull my starter apart and try to do the same thing? I DON'T want to break the thing, but it is out of the car now anyway (halfway through a UDP install and needed access to the flywheel so I removed it), so I thought I would fix it. Suggestions?

Mine makes a similar noise, kinda sounds like a police siren winding down. It's done it for 2 years since i had the car and i havent had a problem intill now. But I dont think my problem was noise related.

Yeah my car did that with the starter, it sounded like that foam car from ***** wonka and the chocolate factory...but changed the starter and it went away...still won't start but it went away...

Mine does it too, been doing it for at least 3 years. I figure when the starter does go, I'll get another.
