Hi chris91se,

the ecu is not under the driver's seat but in the passenger area under the middle
console,

it is very pack back there,

so if you want to find if it is there go to the passenger side and remove the cover on the pasenger side of the console and you will find the ecu there,

I have to disagree. The ECU is on the right of the driver's side.

I guess you didn't read what I wrote. I said the ECU is on the right side of the where the driver puts his feet. So, in essence, that would make it very close to being underneath the passenger seat. OR if you have a Maxima where the steering wheel is on the right side of the car, then I don't think that would make the ECU on the right side of the driver's foot. So I guess they would have to put it underneath the passenger seat then.

You're on the right track. Don't give up.

wait...I was told the ECU was hidden in the center console, that would make it in between the seats right?

No, you've both got it wrong. Everybody knows the ECU is above where the collectors meet in the y-pipe. Where else would it be?

No, ECU stands for the Electrical Capacitance Unit. It stores electric signals sent in from the knock sensor, MAF, coolant sensors, VTC's and many other things. There's a **** inside the ECU, and if you turn it clockwise, it'll increase the output of the ECU so that the sensors are "cushioned" so to speak. This allows you to advance your ignition timing and gain about 10hp. It's free and easy! And I believe it's located behind the windshield.

i thought it was called an Enviromental Control Unit and supposed to regulate the amount of air coming in from the outside.

Hi,

you guys are all

the ecu is in different place in 89-91
then the 92-94

the ecu for the 89-91 is in the left handside of the passender seat and in the middle of the console and the ecu for the 92-94 is on the right hand side of the driver seats,

they change the ecu from left side of the passenger console in the 89-91 to the right hand side of the driver side on the right hand side of the console in the
92-94,

you guys think all the cars were made the same no,

they change the car with different design but kept the VG engine,

say for my car the front has two grill and the word nissan on it,

they change the grill on the 92 with smaller grill and the nissan symbol was put on that car,

so there is a difference between the 91 max and the 92 max.

I think that he was point out that most of these people have the 92-94 maxima's and are arguing the point. We were all arguing against different models of the third gen. Thanks for solving this.

I still think my ECU is on the right side of the driver's gas pedals... NOT the left side of the passenger's gas pedals. Yes, the 92 GSE.. YES.. GSE.. it has gas pedals on the passenger side.

and also an optional steering wheel on the passeger side ...but it was only a standard option on that model...so all 3rd gen maximas wont have it.
